Winning for Parkinson
My name and picture have
been in the local papers
lately. Winning the "Worlds"
Doubles in Crokinole is just
amazing and when I contem-
plated what to do with the
money I won on the way
home from Tavistock I knew
half would be given to the
Parkinson Society in connec-
tion/conjunction with my
second attempt at winning a
"Gold" medal at the 55+
Summer Games August
19-21 in Windsor.
Finishing first at Brockton,
winning Gold for Grey/Bruce
Senior Games in the 3km
prediction walk not only
draws me to the Kincardine
track each day to practice but
it let's everyone know I really
do believe in charity.
My goal is to collect
$5,000.00 and create aware-
ness for Parkinson. I am half
way there but I need your
support/pledges. Please
phone me at 519-392-8115 or
send your "Parkinson Super -
walk" cheque to Box 166
Teeswater, NOG 2S0 "It is in
your heart to give" not
your wallet. The rewards are
great.

Allan Thompson Vies for Federal
Liberal Nomination in Huron -Bruce
Submitted
Allan Thompson
announced on July 14, 2014
that he is seeking the Lib-
eral Party of Canada nomi-
nation in hopes of becom-
ing the Huron -Bruce
riding's Liberal candidate in
the 2015 federal election.
"I'm running because I
want to restore principled
leadership and integrity to
Canadian politics," said
Thompson, who was born
and raised on a farm just
outside the village of Glam-
mis in southern Bruce
County.
"My decision to run is
based on my commitment
to democracy and my con-
cern that the current prime
minister is undermining
the pillars of our democ-
racy," Thompson said. "I
think the people of Huron -
Bruce deserve an effective
MP who is part of a govern-
ment they can be proud of."
Thompson, 50, a jour-
nalism professor at Otta-
wa's Carleton University, is
a former political reporter
for the Toronto Star. He
went to school at Bruce
Township Central Public in
Underwood and Walkerton
District Secondary School
and began his journalism
career as a reporter with
the Kincardine Independ-
ent and Teeswater News.
Thompson is committed
to building the rural econ-
omy in Huron -Bruce and
becoming a strong voice for
farmers, as well as those
who live in the riding's
small towns and surround-
ing areas.
He believes that his farm
upbringing combined with
his deep knowledge of how
Ottawa works will help him
to bridge the rural -urban
gap. He is also committed
to looking for ways to make
settling down in the region
a more viable option for
young people who are
drawn away to seek school-
ing and job opportunities.
Thompson has remained
very engaged in Huron -
Bruce through his extensive
family ties, involvement
with a number of local
organizations and as a
member of the congrega-
tion at St. Paul's Presbyte-
rian Church in Glammis.
He played broomball with
the Glammis Flyers, com-
piled a history of the early
years of Glammis and has
been a guest speaker for
such groups as the Saugeen
chapter of the Canadian
Federation of University

with local history groups,
helping to review
publications.

potential supporters face-
to-face, Thompson also
plans to connect
through the extensive use
of social media in his cam-
