Pinecrest Manor in Lucknow cel-
ebrated its 40th Anniversary on July
5, 2014. The lounge was overflow-
ing, with staff, residents and guests
spilling into the front entrance and
hallway while speeches and pres-
entations were given.
Each speech give highlighted the
rich history and great importance
this facility has in the community.
The facility and staff were praised
for the high level of care that the
residents have received over the
years. It was pointed out that not all
rural communities are lucky
enough to have such a high quality
of care available locally which
provides continuity of connection
with the community for residents
in their golden years.
The family of Muriel Courtney
presented a memorial bench in
her honour for the enjoyment of
present and future residents, visi-
tors and staff of Pinecrest. It
proudly sits at the entrance to the
Manor.
Greetings and words of praise
were presented by Huron -Bruce
MPP Lisa Thompson on behalf of
the Province of Ontario, Huron -
Bruce MP Ben Lobb on behalf of
Canada and Mayor Mitch Twolan
on behalf of the Township of
Huron -Kinloss. Accepting the var-
ious presentations was President
of the Residents' Council Cliff
Emmerton.
Cutting the cake for the festiv-
ities were the ladies who have
held the longest employment at
Pinecrest Manor. Lillian Pollard
as worked for 35 years, first as a
Registered Practical Nurse and
currently as a Personal Service
Worker and will be retiring on
July 29, 2014. Gloria Symes is the
Recreation Aid and has an
employment record at Pinecrest
of 40 years. Donna Crich has
also been a Pinecrest employee
for 35 years and is the Recrea-
tion Manager.
Two of the residents were rec-
ognized as they will be turning
100 years old in 2014. These are
Margaret Mowbray and Mary
MacGillivray. MacGillivray's
daughter Carol Phillips revealed
that "Mom would be the oldest
living employee, or at least of all
who have worked at Pinecrest."
Crich would like to acknowl-
edge that the Residents' Council
have used the money donated
through memorials of past resi-
dents to purchase furniture for
the North patio to make
Pinecrest Manor an even more
enjoyable place to live going
forward.
As Twolan commented in his
speech, "We congratulate
Pinecrest Manor on their 40th
anniversary and look forward to
it continuing to serve the com-
munity 100 years from now."
