Music in the Fields Artist Profile
Whitney Rose
Whitney Rose will be playing
a Lucknow's Music in the Fields
on the Main Stage from 8-8:30
p.m. on Friday, August 22, 2014.
Since releasing her debut
record to rave reviews in
November 2012, Whitney
Rose's name has been slowly
seeping throughout the coun-
try, winning over fans in every
nook and cranny of Canada
both east and west.
Jesse Kinos-Goodin (CBC
Music) describes describes the
album as, "rooted in those
sepia -toned classic country
songs, she has away of giving it
afresh burst of Technicolor" He
goes on to say, "Whether she's
singing about summer love
("Daisies in Our Eyes"), prison
love letters ("Send You Away")
or the very real pangs of being
an East Coast woman whose
partner has gone west for work
("East Coast Woman Blues"),
Rose evokes the very best of her
influences, such as Patsy Cline,
Kitty Wells or Emmylou Harris,
while at the same time sound-
ing completely fresh:'
In 2013, Rose shared bills
with the likes of Dwight
Yoakam, Reba McEntire, Kenny
Chesney, The Dixie Chicks,
Michelle Wright, Doc Walker,
and many more at various festi-
vals. She supported The Pro -
claimers on the main stage at
the Canadian National Exhibi-
tion, and on a cross Canada
tour. Festival highlights
included The Cavendish Beach
Music Festival, Boots and
Hearts, and The Peterborough

Kerry Doole (New Canadian
Music) states, "Rose has a
strong voice with a retro feel, a
la Patsy Cline, and she proves
herself a promising songwriter
too. Not since Lori Yates has the
Queen West scene produced
such an authentic country
voice'
In March she joins genre
defying Grammy award win-
ners, The Mavericks, on a tour
to western Canada. Rose will
act as a burst of fresh air with
her new take on old school
sounds. Blue Rodeo's Bazil
Donovan, who co-produced
her debut album agrees, stat-
ing: "The reason I was drawn to
Whitney was because she was
playing real legitimate 1960's
era country music, because
there is none of that around on
the radio any more - there's
nobody that I know of that is
making honest ..what I call real
country music. When I heard
her songs, I heard what she was
doing, I went hey - that's real
country music and I'm glad
somebody's interested in it"
