On Saturday June 21st the Wingham
Golf and Curling Club hosted the
eighth annual Dr. Recruitment golf
tournament. The 56 golfers played a
nine hole scramble on a beautiful
sunny day with over 70 joining together
in the dining lounge for a beef buffet
supper. Organizer Doug Neil and the
recruitment committee did a stellar job
of putting this group together for a great
fundraiser that benefits the entire
Wingham area.
The tournament action was in full
swing this past weekend with the West -
cast group getting the action started on
Friday afternoon. The 20 golfers
enjoyed nine holes of golf followed by
our tasty chicken wings in the golfer's
lounge. Saturday morning the Godden
family and friends played a nine hole
scramble followed by lunch from the
scenic patio.
In regular league play the Tuesday
ladies again had mother nature take
control of their golf day. The morning
girls managed to get their game in but
the afternoon and evening gals almost
got caught in a torrential downpour.
Wednesday June 18th the senior
men had 30 golfers hit the links. Don
Bone had the hot hand shooting a even
par round of 35. The senior man of the
group 93 year old young Clayt Ruppel
took home low net with Terry Taylor
second and Glenn McMichael third.
Wayne Gordon captured the prize for
longest putt.
The Thursday night men took full
advantage of a fantastic night for
golf with a great turnout of 74 golf-
ers. Jay Marston took advantage of
the superb conditions with a solid
round of 35 for the low score for the
night. Don Watson took home two
closest to the pin awards with John
Dybes receiving one. The longest
putts winners were Doug Rathwell.
Jamie Chester, Norm Watson, Chad
Haggitt and Clare Rolph with the
hidden scores going to Richard Wat-
son, Brett Martin, Jim Ross and Bob
Foxton.
Saturday morning June 21st Steve
Huffman aced the fifth hole with a six
iron from 170 yards for his first hole in
one.
