Volunteers are an important part of any festival. Linda and Allan Andrew were
some of the bartenders and Tom and Mary Downey have been part of the grounds
crew for all 6 years of Lucknow's Music in the Fields. Allan Andrew explained "We
bartenders create the mess and the grounds team cleans it up." From left: Mary

Reid Family Gathering
Lynda Holmes
The Reid Family Gathering took
place at the Candlelight Inn, Goder-
ich, in June 2014.
An enjoyable, memorable time took
place recently for the descendants of
Robert Reid and Mary Davidson who
lived and farmed in the Auburn,
Goderich and Lucknow area.
Robert was born October 1838
and died October 1924. Mary was
born in October 1851 and died
March 1923. They were laid to rest
in Maitland Cemetery, Goderich.
Buried with them is their daughter
Jane Omens.
Robert and Mary had a large fam-
ily. They were the parents of Mabel,
Samuel, Robert, Esther, Ella, Harvey,
Thomas, Jane, John and Mary. Their
half sister was Isabella Jane.
My Grandfather Samuel Reid was
born in 1874 and farmed in Ashfield
Township. On July 1, 1908 in St. Hel-
en's, he married Isabel Matilda
Jarvis, daughter of Edwin Jarvis and
Eliza Emack and sister of Eliza Far-
rier. Sam and `Tilly' raised one son
and four daughters. Milvert (Laura
Congram), Evelyn, (Peter Cook)
Ruby (Charlie McDonald), Doris
(Wm. G. Humphrey) and Lorna (Russ
Clipperton/Gerald Hudson). Aunt
Doris is the remaining sibling from
her family; she celebrated her 92nd
birthday in December 2013!
Sam's sister Mabel Reid was born
in Ashfield Township in 1892. Mabel
married James McIntosh, their
daughter Dorothy was born in
Goderich Hospital in 1928, Dorothy
grew up in Kinloss Township. Doro-
thy's husband Wilfred Linnell passed
away in 2000.
Altogether, there were 20 relatives
gathered together in June. More fam-
ily members would have attended but
couldn't due to other commitments.
Our very special family members
in attendance were first cousins
Doris Humphrey of Lucknow and
Dorothy Linnell of Strathroy. Aunt
Doris celebrated her 92nd birthday
in December of 2012!
Doris' daughter Sandra Haldenby
from Holyrood and her son George
Humphrey from Lucknow attended
the dinner.
From the Oshawa area were Doro-
thy's son Evan Linnell, his wife The-
resa, Dorothy's daughter Sheri
Bredewold, her husband Doug along
with Dorothy's daughter Donna Lin-
nell from London.
Also present were Milvert and
Laura Reid's son Keith Reid from
Mitchell, his daughter Stacey and
grandson Jordan from Stratford.
Elaine Steer of Lucknow daughter
of Evelyn and Pete Cook, Joyce Cran-
ston daughter of Ruby and Charlie
McDonald, her husband Keith Cran-
ston of Wingham along with Joyce's
brother Allan McDonald of St. Hel-
en's joined in the reunion.
