Halloween Run this October!
Alzheimer
Society of
Huron County
Brittany Williams
Events Coordinator
In the spirit of Halloween,
the Alzheimer Society of
Huron County is hosting
their 2nd annual 5K & 10K
run, this year on the trails of
Central Huron. The trail is a
hidden gem, a real treat...
not trick! The Veenstra fam-
ily has generously offered
use of their trail behind the
One Care and Alzheimer
Huron offices. The trail is
packed with scenery and the
fall colours we'll have by
October will be fantastic to
run through. "This is a great
opportunity to run one of
the best trails Huron County
has to offer. The trail is great
to run on, hard packed and
dry through the wooded
portions," says Brittany Wil-
liams, Events Coordinator at
Alzheimer Huron. "The
course isn't exclusively trail
terrain, especially for those
running the 10K. It's more of
a taste of trail running that
you'd never experience run-
ning in a city, but a sturdy
route that isn't overly chal-
lenging for those just starting
out either"
At the end of the course
take advantage of the spooky
photo booth, document your
sweaty achievement in your
favourite Halloween gear!
Early bird registration is
open until August 31st, and
the first 100 participants to
register by September 19th
will receive a performance
t -shirt .
The Society is still looking
for volunteers to help with
registration the day of the
run, man water stations
along the route and assist
with the closing ceremonies.
This is a great opportunity
for high school students to
get their hours - and the
bonus is that everyone, run-
ners and volunteers alike,
can pull out their Halloween
costumes early!
Last year's "Glimmer in
the Darkness Twilight Run"
was a successful event
despite weather warnings
causing a re -scheduled race
date. Like last year, the funds
raised at the run will remain
in our communities to sup-
port the increase in the
demand for programs and
services as more people are
being diagnosed with Alz-
heimer's disease and other
dementias. Early bird regis-
tration is $30 (5K) and $40
(10K) until August 30th, be
sure to register early for your
performance t -shirt. If you
would like to get involved as
a volunteer or register to run
