Some fundraisers are small, focused efforts, while others are ongoing or annual. This edition of the Lucknow Sentinel contains some of the local fundraising events. Of course, the event in the forefront this past weekend was Lucnknow's Music in the Fields. All of the profits from the festival are donated back to the community in different ways through the Lucknow Kinsmen who organize and deliver this event, along with many community volunteers. During the event, there was another fundraiser fea- tured. Lucknow Central Public School held a 50/50 raffle with proceeds to be divided to support both the LCPS library and their music program. As was stated many times over the weekend, funding this raffle could make it so you would potentially be sup- porting future artists for Music in the Fields that are home grown. There are two articles in this issue of fundraisers for Alzheimers Research. There is the upcoming Spooky Fun Run in Huron County. The Mann Family Ride for Alzheimers has already taken place, but donations can still be made through the website. This group makes this ride every year and reported that the hill at the Lucknow Knechtel's Food Mart is one of their favourite rest stops. The Terry Fox Run for Cancer Research takes place Sunday, September 14,2014. There is a family event at the Lucknow Arena as part of this fundraiser. Come to the LucknowArena to run, walk, roller- blade, bike or skateboard for the cause. There is no entry fee and no minimum pledge required to participate. Registra- tion is at 10:30 a.m. for a 11 a.m. start. This is the 34th year for the Terry Fox Run. The Lucknow Sentinel is committed to helping with the success of the fundrais- ers in Lucknow and the surrounding areas. Anyone involved with such a cause is urged to advertise their event, as well as provide information for an article giving the details of the fundraiser and the cause it represents. A huge thank you and congratulations are in order for those who helped in any way in the success of the 2014 Lucicnow's Music in the Fields. For a small commu- nity, this is a very big undertaking that is becoming more sophisticated each year. The acts that are attracted are getting big- ger. This event most certainly gives Luc - know good reason to be proud. Well done, Kinsmen and crew!!! Lucknow News By Ruth Dobrensky Well my great-nephew Nick and I spent sev- eral days visiting with my sister Linda and her husband Marc in Perlcinsfield near Midland. We had an enjoyable trip from Lucknow last Monday with a stop in Feversham where I showed Nick the farm my mother's family (Douglas) started when my great -great-grand- father arrived from Scotland in 1850. We then visited all the ancestors at the Presbyterian Church cemetery in Feversham, it was an inter- esting way to tell Nick about some of our ances- tors. We continued on to my sister's where we had a lovely supper with them and Marc's nephew Andre and his girlfriend Erin after which we enjoyed a beautiful sunset on Cawaja Beach just a few blocks from Linda's house. Once it was dark we enjoyed fireworks and a campfire in their backyard. The next day Nick and I spent an enjoyable morning and part of the afternoon at Ste. Marie Among the Hurons. We both had a great lime and we returned to my sister's in time for Marc to take Nick fishing in Midland while Linda went golfing and I spent a few restful hours. On Wednesday, Linda, Nick and I took a boat tour on Georgian Bay while Marc went golfing and then we all Kinloss Kairshea Women's Institute met up for an all -you -can -eat fish supper at Captain Ken's. We spent the rest of the week stopping in at many spots (go-cart tracks, etc.) along the way home and in general "had a very good time'.' Nick is already planning next sum- mer's adventure, I can hardly wait Teeswater held their annual fair this past weekend, it looked to me like everyone was having a fun time It's so great that all our small communities are still able to host these won- derful community fairs. Big fairs like the Ex in Toronto are great, but there are so many more personal touches and connections that can be made at our little fairs, and, they are a lot of fun. We still have Lucknow and Ripley and who knows how many other fairs to check out before they are all over for another year. Several members of St. Peter's Anglican Church attended a concert on August 17 and a special service of celebration on August 24 in honour of Archdeacon Alan Livingstone of St. George's Anglican Church, Goderich, who is retiring at the end of August.
