Kids Light Up at the Library
Valerie Gillies
Editor/Lucknow Sentinel
Lucknow Library has lots
going on for the kids this
summer. On August 8 the
Makerkid program got all
charged up making light -up
duct tape bracelets. The kids
did all of the work to create
bracelets containing LED
lights. When the bracelets
were finished and decorated
it was time to try them out.
When done up to wear, the
circuit was completed and
the LED ligths turned on.
It will be time to "Unleash
your Wild Side" at the Luc -
know Library at 10 a.m. on
August 22. The Bruce County
Museum & Cultural Centre's
"Dino Experts" will be
employing crafts and activi-
ties to bring the dinos to life.
Do you want to know what it
would be like to be a
dinosaur?

Wawanosh Wonder
Women (earn Fashion Tips
By Reba Jefferson
Meeting 5 of the
Wawanosh 4-H Wonder
Women was held on Thurs-
day, July 31 at the St. Jacobs
Outlet Mall at 6:45pm. Vice
President, Loretta Higgins,
opened the meeting with the
pledge then led roll call
which asked members what
their favourite outfit and col-
our were. Most members
enjoyed wearing jeans or
leggings and a T-shirt, and
the favourite colour of the
group was blue.
The club then divided up
into junior and senior mem-
bers to visit the Laura and
Levi's stores. The senior
members toured Levi's and
asked each other questions
like "If you were on a budget
what would you purchase
here" or "If the price didn't
matter, what would you buy."
Meanwhile, the junior mem-
bers were introduced to
Peggy, the manager of the
Laura Outlet Store. Peggy
gave a brief history of Laura
- it was started by a woman
named Laura in Montreal,
then her grandson partnered
with her and they spread
throughout Canada and later
created Melanie Lynn stores
as well. With Peggy's help
the junior members then
picked out jewellery and
other accessories for differ-
ent outfits.
The senior and junior
members then traded
places. After the senior
members were introduced to
Peggy, they went over some
fashion myths. One of these
myths was "You can't wear
white after labour day,"
Peggy informed the group
that this is not true. White
can be worn in October and
into November, especially
ivories and creams. They
also learned that you can
wear gold and silver
together, your shoes do not
need to match your belt and
many other fashion myths.
The senior members then
found a partner and
searched the store for outfits
appropriate and inappropri-
ate for different work -places.
After showing off their out-
fits and giving reasons why it
was appropriate or inappro-
priate, the junior members
rejoined the seniors in
Laura. Reba Jefferson then
thanked Peggy for every-
thing she had taught them.
Loretta Higgins closed the
meeting with the motto.
