The Lucknow Sentinel, 2014-04-16, Page 5Wednesday, April 16, 2014 • Lucknow Sentinel 5 The Perils of Persephone 'full of laughs and chuckles' Ruth Dobrensky If you want to see a good play this spring, go see the Perils of Perse- phone at the HAWK Theatre. A witty play by that famous author Dan Needles, creator of the Wingfield Farms stories that all take place in Persephone Township. This play, stars the confused and dysfunctional Currie Family, whose farm, through a series of events one hot summer day and night in 1988, becomes the focus of a provincial government cover-up and all that ensues thereafter. The play produced by Monica Friedrich and directed by Maureen Matchett, is full of mishap and mayhem but there is "no cows for alarm'.' The Currie family played by Tony McQuail, Viv- ien King -Sherwood, Jessica Nelson and Ben Miltenburg, have to con- tend with with a self-important government spin doctor (Lillian Abbott), the inept Minister of the Environment (Murray Youngblut) and a spaced out truck driver (Jonathan Nelson). Without giving too much away, the storyline could relate to the problems we are seeing around our community with the windfarms and our ever-present government interference and red tape. Fortu- nately, this story is fictitious and so is Persephone Township. The play starts on April 24 and runs to May 3. Go, you'll enjoy your- selves immensely. It's full of laughs and chucldes and you may even learn how to avoid getting yourself embroiled with government malarkey.
