Kindly submitted, Gerald Fagan, artistic director Duncan McGregor, director Kimberley Payne, director Bach Music Festival of Canada SWEAR members appeal for community donations to cover legal fees To the Editor: On May 28, the Court of Appeal for Ontario denied leave to appeal to the Drennans, Dixons, Ryans and the Kroeplins, in respect of their Charter Challenge to the current legislation for the approval of wind turbine projects. This brought an end to this particular challenge. However, much important work was done and information gathered during this process. The County of Lambton and fourteen groups from across the province intervened at Divisional Court this past November to support the Charter Challenge and consolidate the fight. Ironically, in their decision in late 2014, Divisional Court acknowledged that there is a strong public interest component here. All of this will be used by others going forward. Things are percolating across this province on this front, and the Charter Challenge may well rise again. In the meantime, the appellants in this challenge are now faced with paying court costs to the wind companies. The costs are considerably less than what was requested by the wind Optimist Club frustrated with vandalism To the Editor: Frustration comes to mind quickly when I see the complete disrespect that some people have for community property. Over the past couple of years member of the Optimist Club have redone the park with new sod, fencing and new bleachers, only to have many things destroyed. Last week was the fourth picnic table to be completely trashed. The netting that was installed in the outfield, at great cost, to help keep the balls in the park has been cut and made almost useless. With the cost of hydro and gasoline increasing the cost of operating the park is also increasing. Each time the grass cutters do the park they have to collect and bag garbage even though there is trash and recycle cans made available. It appears that just throwing things on the ground or under the bleachers is more convenient than walking a few steps to use the containers. Our park is used mainly by minor ball teams at no charge. companies (the court reduced the amounts) but are, nevertheless, significant. We would like to thank everyone who supported the Charter Challenge by actions, financially and/or in spirit. Support was strong and continuous. At this time we are asking you to please consider financially supporting the appellants with their court costs. Their fight was a community fight and we can, and should, help them with this part. If you would like to make a contribution, please make your cheque payable to SWEAR - c/o Dave However it seems that the adults watching like to add to the mess as each week the number of beer bottles and Tim Horton's cups seem to continue to appear out of nowhere. All we would like is if the adults see others abusing the fence or play ground or just plain littering, please speak up and take some pride in your parks. If you have complaints or ideas the Optimist Club meet the first and third Mondays each month and can always use new ideas and members. If you Hemingway, RR2 Bayfield, ON NOM 1GO.
