Huron Expositor, 2015-12-16, Page 9Wednesday, December 16, 2015 • Huron Expositor 9 Erin Gilchrist to host Christmas songs Dec. 17, heads to Kenya in January Erin Gilchrist is looking forward to returning to Kenya in January to work with the community at the Rita Rose Garden and Sus- tainable Farm, which sup- ports vulnerable children at the Kisumu Children's Res- cue Center in Kenya. She is a Global Advocate with the non-profit organi- zation Mama Hope, which is dedicated to helping local leaders access the resources they need to make positive and sustainable change in their communities. Having grown up in the Lucknow area, Erin has seen what an important role agriculture plays in bringing a community together. She is very excited to have the opportunity to help the community in Kisumu, Kenya experience the benefits of a thriving agricultural hub. The farm is crucial in ful- filling this vision, as it is responsible for providing the children with nourish- ing food. In addition to this, the team at the farm is working hard to expand and improve its sustainability, with the goal of earning enough income from selling produce at the market to cover all of the Rescue Cent- er's operational costs and the children's school fees. Gilchrist is inviting the public to join her at the Luc - know Town Hall Theatre on Thursday, Dec. 17 at 7:30 p.m. for Carols for Kisumu: An Evening of Christmas Songs. This will be a great oppor- tunity to learn more about her project, sing all of your favourite Christmas songs, and participate in a silent auction to support the pro- ject in Kenya.
