Winthrop Beats Blyth 9 to 6 Winthrop Warriors staged a strong third period rally, scor- ing six unanswered goals, to defeat Blyth 9-6 in the first game of the WOAA Intermeli- ate "D" schedule. The game was played in Seaforth on Mon- day night. Blyth led 4-2 at the end of the first period, and 6-3 at the close of the second per- iod. Winthrop came on strong in the third period and scored six goals to win the game 9-6. Winston Powell led the Win- throp attack with 3 goals; 'Jim Strong and Don McClure tallied two goals apiece, with singles to Ray Powell and Ken Ma- loney. Lyth goals were scored by Knox, with 2; singles by Daer, Radford, Bromley and Foster. The next Winthrop home game will be on Monday, Dec. 18, when Monkton will be the opposing team. Gregory, President of British Mortgage & Trust, first introduced Mr. G. W. Po- cock, representative of Ellis - Don Limited, general contrac- tors for the new building. Mr. Gregory then introduced Mayor E. C. Fisher, who turned the sod with a gold shovel present- ed to him by Mr. Pocock on be- half of Ellis -Don Limited. LEGION CORNER 1 By JACK HOLLAND Well, friends, the Christmas social season is just about here and I have some important dates to tuck away in your memory bank. This coming Saturday, Dec. 16, Jack Eisler is getting the hockey started for all the young ones in the community - 15 and under—and registration will take place at the Memorial Arena on Saturday morning, so, parents, kindly see that the young lads are there. This is one of the many community services that the Legion spon- sors, and one in which we are quite proud of. This youth win- ter sports program has been looked after by the Legion .for the past 15 years and as eager- ly looked forward to each sea- son by one and all. There will be a turkey bingo on Saturday night at the Le- gion auditorium, `so here's your last chance to pick up your Christmas bird at a bingo. Now to carry on from Satur- day night through Sunday, the Legion is holding its annual Christmas party for the veter- ans' kiddies on Sunday after- noon, starting at 2:30 p.m. There will be gifts for all the young fry, and a concert for the enjoyment of all. So, in closing, keep the above dates in mind. Hockey registration for young boys (15 and under), Saturday, Dec. 16; turkey bingo, Legion auditorium, Saturday night, Dec. 16; Santa Claus concert on Sunday at Legion Hall, Dec. 17; and, of course, there is the big annual Christmas dance, so look for your invitation through the mail. Set Schedule For WOAA Series The schedule for Group 4 WOAA Intermediate hockey was announced this week. The schedule is complete, ex- cept Brussels home games are to be arranged. Playoffs are to begin Mon- day, Feb. 12, with 'D' series playing best three -of -five games in semifinals, and 'C' series best two-out-fif-three. Finals in both series will be best.of-seven games.
