12th Anniversary
Hensall Legion Auxiliary ob-
served their 12th anniversary
on Friday evening, October 6,
and entertained Legion mem-
bers in the Legion Hall, very
attractive with baskets of
bronze mums. For entertain-
ment, progressive euchre was•
played and the winners were:
ladies, Mrs. Mary Taylor " and
Mrs. 'Harry Horton; gents, Ted
Taylor and Wilmer Dalrymple.
In a draw for a leather hand-
bag, Mrs. William Smale, of
Hensall, was the winner. A
leather wallet was won by Earl
Zimmer, of Zurich. Jim Young
and his orchestra from Exeter
provided music for the dance,
and a turkey and ham smorgas-
bord was served.

Oct. 4. The installation was con-
ducted by District Deputy Presi-
dent Mrs. Ethel McPherson,

During the business session
it was decided to cater to the'
Grand Masters' banquet Nov. 20,
to serve the baseball boys with
a banquet, and to canvass the
village for Tag Day for South

October Feature
.Hobo teas were planned for
the month of October at the
October meeting of the Hen-
sall Ladies' Auxiliary, held in
the Legion Hall Tuesday eve-
ning and presided over by Presi-
dent Mrs. Gordon Munn, with
Mrs. W. J. Cameron acting as
secretary in the absence of
Mrs. E. R. Davis.
A thank -you letter was read
from Miss Lizmore, reception-
ist at Westminster Hospital,
London, thanking the auxiliary
for gifts sent to two veterans.
Plans were finalized for their
twelfth birthday party, held
Friday night, Oct. 6, with Le-
gion members special guests.
One bowling team participated
in the bowling tournament at
Wingham, Oct. 4, and two teams
will go to Exeter Nov. 1 to
take part in a • tournament.
These tournaments are sponsor-
ed by the Legion Ladies' Aux-
iliary.
Mrs. Roy Smale won the mys-
tery prize. A period of recrea-
tion was enjoyed and refresh-
ments were served.

District Weddings
LOVE—CALDWELL
HENSALL — A lovely wed-
ding was solemnized in Ontario
Street United Church, Clinton,
when the Rev. Grant Mills unit-
ed in marriage Verna Lorene
Caldwell, Clinton, and Lorne
Harold Love, Zurich. The bride
is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
William Caldwell, Clinton, and
the groom's parents are Mr.
and Mrs. Earl Love. Zurich.
The bride was gowned in
floor -length silk ' organza over
taffeta. The bodice with its
three-quarter sleeves and scal-
loped neckline was embroider-
ed with guipure lace "and pearls.
The full skirt swept into a
chapel train, featuring panels
of the same lace and seed
pearls. A crown of pearls and
crystal beads held her finger-
tip veil of white nylon tulle,
and she carried a white Bible
crested with- an orchid and
showers of stephanotis.
Miss Norma Love, RR 1, Zur-
ich, sister of the groom, was
maid of honor, and bridesmaids
were Miss Lois Falconer, Strat-
ford, and Mrs. Ken Caldwell,
Clinton, with Shyril Webster,
Varna, as flower -girl. The sen-
ior attendants were identically
gowned in mauve brocaded sat-
in cocktail -length dresses. The
flower -girl wore a white brocad-
ed satin frock with mauve sash.
John MacGregor, Kippen, was
groomsman, and Bill Dowson,
Varna, and Ken Caldwell, Clin-
ton. brother of the groom, ush-
ered guests.
For a wedding trip to Mexico
the bride travelled in a green
knitted suit, brown accessories
and an orchid corsage. They
will reside in Clinton.

On Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving service was ob-
served Sunday morning with a
splendid congregation. Rev. R.
Currie Winlaw for his sermon
topic spoke on "With Thankful
Hearts." The choir for their
selection sang, "Let Me Walk
With My Saviour," and a quart-
ette, composed of Mrs. C. Win -
law, Mrs. Pearl Passmore, Ron
Mock and Harry Horton, offered
a selection, "Come, Ye Thank-
ful People, Come." Mrs. Robert
Pryde presided at the organ
console.
Sunday, Oct. 16, the Sacra-
ment of Holy Baptism will be
held. Monday, Oct. 16, at 7:30
p.m., Huron YPU Fall Rally.
Huron Hospital, Exeter, Mrs.
Orr reported for the visiting
committee; Mrs. Lorne Chap-
man for the finance committee,
and Mrs. MacGregor gave the
semi-annual report.
Mrs. GlennBell expressed
congratulations to the DDP and
her installing staff. Mrs. A.
Shaddick, Noble Grand of Clin-
ton Lodge, also spoke, Other
speakers included Mrs. B.
Suter and Mrs. Nediger, Clin-
ton, Mrs. MacGregor and Mrs.
Chipchase. A social hour was
convened by Mrs. R. E. Shad -
dick and Mrs. Edna Corbett.
Accept Bid For
Joint Meeting
The October meeting of the
Women's Missionary Society of
the United Church, Hensall, was
held Thursday afternoon, Oct.
5, with Mrs. George Armstrong
and her group in charge, Mrs.
Armstrong presiding. The devo-
tional was taken by Mrs. Wil-
bert Dilling, Mrs. Wm. Cole and
Mrs. Orville Jones; sacred pas-
sages were read by Mrs. Jarvis
Horton, and prayer offeree by
Mrs. Fred Beer. A duet, the
23rd Psalm, was sung by Mrs.
Armstrong and Mrs. Orville
Jones. Mrs. T. J. Sherritt was
accompanist.
Miss M. Ellis reviewed chap-
ters of the new study book,
"Signals For the Sixties." Mrs.
Armstrong spoke on the study
book, "Hasten the Day." Presi-
dent Mrs. E. Rowe chaired the
business period when it was an-
nounced that the thankoffering
service will be held the last
Sunday in October, when Rev.
R. A. Brook, of Acton, will be
invited to be guest minister.
Mrs. Sim Roobol gave a com-
mentary on her trip to Holland
this year. The bale will be
packed Wednesday, Nov. 1.
Mrs. Albert Alexander read a
letter of thanks for bale of
clothing sent to Toronto, and
for the bale to Bella Coola Hos-
pital. Mrs. Howe read a thank -
you letter sent to Mrs. M. A.
C. Richardson for used stamps
which she collects for sale for
Mission Leprosy.
Invitations were accepted to
the Arnold Circle of Carmel
Church Oct. 16, and the Eve-
ning Auxiliary of the United
Church, Nov. 13. The president
spoke on the new organization
of the church. Several thank
notes to the flower committee
were read.

were named delegates to the
Sectional meeting at Whalen.

Wed 40 Years
A family dinner at the Dom-
inion Hotel, Zurich, this week
marked the 40th wedding an-
niversary of Mr. and Mrs. Sam-
uel Oesch, of Hensall. The cou-
ple took up residence in the
village three years ago, coming
here from Stanley Township,
where they farmed all their
married life.
Mrs, Oesch is the former
Mary Bedard. They have a fam-
ily of four: Russell, Stanley
Township; Kathleen, Mrs. Robt.
Belly, Blyth; Anne, Mrs. Earl
Flaxbard, Zurich, and Mae, Mrs.
Ray McNail, Brucefield, and 19
grandchildren.
The family, relatives and
friends gathered at the couple's
home for a social evening when
they were presented with a
chime clock by the family,
flowers from the grandchildren,
and other gifts. The grandchil-
dren entertained with a mock
wedding and accordian num-
bers.

ed a delicious hot turkey sup-
per with all the trimmings last
Tuesday evening at Carmel
Church, and many favorable
comments were heard regard-
ing the fine supper served. The
proceeds were very gratifying.
The Ladies' Aid sponsored the
supper.

Wilfred Raymond Huffman,
43, of RR 1, Hensall, was ad-
mitted to Sarnia General Hospi-
tal last week when he fell out
of a car on Highway 21, five
miles north of Forest. He suf-
fered head and possible inter-
nal injuries. Mr. Huffman was
hitch -hiking to Hensall from
Sarnia when picked up by a
car driven by Benjamin Bres-
sette, of Kettle Point Indian
Reservation.
