Observe Golden. Wedding
Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Jacklin
quietly celebrated their golden
wedding anniversary at their home,
Turnberry Street North, Brussels,
on Wednesday, Dec. 14. Mrs.
Jacklin is the former Gertrude
Stphenson, and they were married
by the Rev. Cameron at the An-
glican Rectory, Brussels.
Taking up farming, they' first
lived on the 6th concession of
Grey, moving from there to the
2nd concession; later in 1923 mov-
ed to the 16th concession, from
which they retired to their present
home in Brussels. '
Mr. and Mrs. Jacklin have four
of a family: sons Melville, Brus-
sels, and Lawrence, Morris Town-
ship; daughters Mrs. Violet Mach-
an, Brussels, and Mildred, Mrs.
Jack Wheeler, Grey Township; al-
so' 29 grandchildren and 19 great-
grandchildren.
A turkey, dinner with their im-
mediate family was one of the
highlights of their anniversary.
Showered with a host of cards
from near and far, they were at
home to their many friends dur-
ing the afternoon and evening.

Bingo Winners
The last in a series of three tur-
key bingo parties, sponsored by
Brussels Canadian Legion Branch
218, was held in the Brussels Town
Hall on Friday evening, Dec. 9th.
Winner of the door prize was
Beth Pennington; winners of $15
special bingo were Dorothy El-
liott; Mrs. Lawrence Jaeklin and
D. A. Rann (split); Sylvester Fox.
Winners of regular bingos were:
Doug Lowe, Bev Riley, Jack Mc-
Whirter, Mary McCall, Tom Wil-
lis, Mrs. Ed. Henderson, Joe Smith
(won two bingos in a row), Mrs.

Veterinarian Retires
Dr. James Anderson, Brussels
veterinarian, has announced his
retirement from active practice
after more than 50 years.
Graduate of the Ontario Veter-
inary College in 1907 when the col-
lege was located in Toronto. Dr.
Anderson spent a short time in
the lumber camps, of Northern On-
tario, returning to take up prac-
tise in Tavistock for four years,
After a year •spent in Scotland,
the birthplace of his father, he,
opened an office 'in 'the Brussels
business section. During the last
40 years Dr. Anderson has con-'
ducted his practise from his' farm
home, where, in his earlier years
kept one of the better herds of
Jersey cattle, supplying a large
portion of Brussels with milk. Dur-
ing later years his farming • activi-
ties have been confined to steers.
In the earlier days it used to
be three goodhorses that took Dr.
Anderson on his calls throughout
the district, and many are the in-
teresting tales he can relate about
his experiences.
Born on the third concession of
Morris Township, near Brussels,
his Wife is the former Isabella Mc-
Nabb.
James Clark
James Clark passed away in
Stratford General Hospital on
Wednesday, Dec. 7, in his 72nd
year. Mr, Clark was born and
had spent all his life on conces-
sion 14, Grey. He was a son of
the late David Clark, and his wife,
the former Annie Buchanan.
Predeceased by five brothers,
survivors include his wife, the
former'Mary McDonald; one son,
Donald, at home; daughter, Mrs.
William (Isabel) Craig, Morris
Township; also one sister, Mar-
garet (Mrs. John Evans), Brus-
sels.
Pallbearers were Archie Engel,
Mark Cardiff, Richard Carter,
Martin McDonald; Alex Steiss and
Elmer Danby. Funeral service was
held Friday at 2 p.m. from the
D. A. Rann funeral home, Brus-
sels, service being conducted by
New Canadians
Take Oath
Forty-three new Canadians took
the oath of allegiance before Judge
Frank Fingland at Huron County
'Court House last week. Thirty-one
had come from Holland, and the
others from Belgium, Poland, Aus-
tria and Germany.

Maple Leaf 'chapter, IODE, en-
tertained them at a reception in
the Canadian Legion Hall. Mrs.
Clayton Edward, regent, welcom-
ed the guests. Mrs. Harry- Ford
presided for a program. Mayor E.
C. Fisher, on behalf of the county
and the town of Goderich, extend-
ed a welcome. Mrs. B. L. Walzak
presented a greeting card's to each
one, en behalf of the Maple Leaf
chapter, IODE. A Hungarian dance
was given by Mary Jane McMan-
us, Joan Curry, Linda Baechler,
and Anne Rae; the Highland Fling.
was danced by Laurie Baechler,
who also gave a piano 'solo; Ann
Rae, Joan Curry and Linda Baech-
ler gave a tap•dance number, and
a •film, "The Canadian Rockies,"
was shown by Mrs. A. M. Harper.
Refreshments were served by Mrs.
d. W, Wallace and her committee,
Edward G. Nelson, of Cranbrook
Presbyterian Church. Interment
was in Brussels cemetery.
Cranbrook Community Hall was
the scene of a rather 'unusual par-
ty on Friday evening last, when
friends and neighbors gathered to
honor the Prescott brothers and
their brides of recent weeks.
Honored were Mr. and Mrs..Bri-
an Prescott, Kitchener (nee Sheila
Black, Brussels); Mr. and Mrs.
Cyril Prescott, Brussels (nee Jean
Cardiff), and Mr. and Mrs. Trevor
Prescott, Toronto (nee June Elvin,
Toronto).
Archie Mann's orchestra played
for dancing, At midnight Mr. Les-
lie McKay invited the young cou-
ples to the platform and read an
address of congratulations. They
were presented with purses of
money.
Each of the grooms in turn, on
behalf of his bride, thanked every-
one for their gift and good wishes.
Martin Baan was in' Toronto last
week as a delegate td the UDPC
annual meeting, also the United
Co-op of Ontario. He reports both
groups had a very successful year.
Miss Mary Adams, Atwood, and
Mr. James Jamieson, students at
Stratford Teachers' College, were
the guests of Mrs. Dorothy Dils-
worth and the pupils of S.S. No.
8, Grey.
FUNERALS
FRANCIS JAMES SHAW
BRUSSELS - Francis James
Shaw, 67, died at the Wingham
Hospital Saturday morning. Born
in Morris Township, he was a
farmer all his life. He was a son
of the late Mr. and Mrs. Arnson
Shaw, of Brussels.
Surviving are his wife, the for-
mer Elsie Johnston, a son Charles
of Brussels, two daughters, Mrs.
Gordon ,(Nora) Stephenson, also of
Brussels, and Mrs. William (Fran-
ces) Bremner, of Grey Township;
two brothers, Ralph and Alex, both
of Morris Township, and 11 grand-
children. •

Rann ' funeral home in Brussels,
where a funeral service was held
Monday at 2 p.m., conducted by
Rev. E. J. Kennedy, of Bluevale
Presbyterian Churc. Burial took
place in Brussels cemetery.
