Broomball numbers looking good for this season

The Seaforth Junior
Broomball franchise gave
the community an opportu-
nity to try out their sport
during a registration session
last Wednesday.
To give the newcomers a
legitimate taste of the game,
the midget squad demon-
strated a detailed routine to
spark some interest followed
by a scrimmage for a slight
competition.
From previous years, the
president of the Seaforth
Junior Broomball, Ethan
Wallace, said Huron
East was a recognized
destination for broomball,
so events like the one held
on September 28 are vital
for the hopes of maybe
bringing it back to what it
once was.
"It was a broomball com-
munity, it started to slowly
die in town, that's why we're
trying a lot of stuff to get the
kids back out," Wallace said
in an interview with
the Expositor after the event.
Wallace referred to the
physical pastime as an
immense plus to families
who are living on a budget
and cannot afford the prices
of the more expensive extra-
curricular activities.
"It's an enjoyable sport,
there isn't the financial
investment like there is with
hockey," he said. "There isn't
much equipment"
Although the numbers
have dropped in the last
decade, Wallace acknowl-
edged that enrollment this
season has surprised him
compared to prior years.
After tallying the numbers
from the registration there
will be two peewee and two
groups of atom represent-
ing the organization.
Akin to preceding
matches, the SJB will be
playing against Blyth, Palm-
erston and Mildmay.
As soon as the centres
meet together Wallace noted
that there will be a schedule
put together, he predicts this
to be shortly after October 5.
