Shaun Gregory Huron Expositor The Huron East Centenaires put on a clinic during their season opener last Saturday in front of a large hometown crowd, as they steamrolled through the Shallow Lake Crushers. Before the puck dropped, Irelyn St. Onge, dressed in a green Cents jersey put on a stellar display of vocals as the 16 -year-old sang the national anthem. "Seaforth hockey should always start with the St. Onge girls singing, great national anthem," stated in a post from the Centenaires Twitter page. The hard checking from both sides of the ice left the first 20 minutes of the game quite close, but the constant puck control and dumping of the puck from the Cents resulted in a 2-1 lead. As the game progressed, the advan- tage remained rather the same in the second period with a 3-2 lead for the men in green and yellow. The 60 minutes of hockey lived up to its physical expectations as new -to -the -team Danny Bryan dropped the gloves with a husky bodied Shallow Lake player. The end result was a 7-4 win for the Cents. Next for the Cents is a battle in a two - game season series against the Ripley Wolves in a away match October 7 and then they bring it back to their stomping ground of Seaforth at 7:30 p.m. October 15. orb It was more than a physical game when the Huron East Centenaires took on the Shallow Lake Crushers October 1 in Seaforth. The captain of the Huron East Centenaires, Brendan Merrit stands for the national anthem last Saturday.
