From what several people are say- ing, the 100th International Plowing Match & Expo is only "16 -short months away." May 7 marked one of the first events leading up to the 2017 IPM, which is expected to hail to more than 100,000 agricultural fanatics. Vehi- cles were lined up on both sides of the road. Municipal politicians, House Of Parlia- ment members and several locals all joined together. To suit the moment -a few even sat on some hay bundles. Formal speeches were made by the people responsible for making this project a reality. Conservative MP, Ben Lobb for the Ontario riding of Huron -Bruce made a couple jokes to make the crowd laugh and Huron East Mayor, MP of Huron -Bruce, Ben Lobb speaks to a crowd of more than a hundred before the sign unveiling for the 100th International Plowing Match & Expo. Bernie MacLellan followed with a more serious way of conversation directed to the large crowd. "For a number of years, we've always bragged about the fact that Huron County's agricultural industry is actu- ally larger then the four Atlantic provinces receipts put together," stated MacLellan. Sheltered from the light drizzle of rain in a huge white tent, behind the crowd was what seemed to be a large sign. Not much could be viewed since it was covered by a blue tarp. Beneath the covering many wondered just what it looked like. After the entire dignitary had their chance to say what they wanted, everyone headed towards the enclosed sign. It was time to show the public. "This is the official unveil- ing of the sign, so that every time somebody drives by they (know this is leading up) to the 2017 IPM," said the chair of the 2017 IPM, Jacqui Bishop just after helping with the revealing of the large sign. Back when she went to university, Thompson was employed in three plowing matches. "I have an extra interest of how it comes together because I know how the back -end works," she said.
