Words cannot describe
what Angelo Ippolito felt
when former student, Sarah
McArthur sang to him dur-
ing a celebration for retir-
ees and teachers reaching
their 25 -year milestone at
the Seaforth Legion last
week.
Eight recipients rejoiced
their quarter-century
achievement including
Karen Kramers and Heidi
Genee-Brown from St. James
Catholic School. Ippolito,
president of the Huron -Perth
local of the Ontario English
Catholic Teachers Associa-
tion, was one of approxi-
mately 12 teachers com-
memorated for their
retirement.
"I'm going to miss it, I'm
going to miss the good
times. I'm going to miss the
negotiations and the bat-
tles, stated Ippolito who
previously taught at St.
James Catholic School for
18 years.
"This elected unit is a great
unit, and over the years
we've developed a great rela-
tionship, and I know it's
going to continue in the
future. And I think we will
model for the rest of the
province."
Roughly 105 people
showed up dressed up for
the memorable night, one
that came with laughs and
tears. "I'd say (75 per cent) of
the people in the audience
were crying during the sing-
ing," Ippolito.
"Everyone was here from
teachers, some of the retir-
ees brought their children,
their spouses, the director
was here, a bunch of princi-
pals were here, trustees were
here and superintendents."
The principal of St. James
Catholic, Jenny Ritsma
attended the event and she
remarked that it was an hon-
our to watch her fellow col-
leagues being recognized for
their success in the world of
teaching, a job she admitted
as not being one of the
easiest.
"There is a lot of persever-
ance but it's a calling for all
of these people and that's
why they persevere and
that's why they do such a
wonderful job and inspire
their students," added
Ritsma.
