Grey Coun. Alvin McLellan spoke to Joe Seili at an administration meeting last week. The main
concern was property standards in Brussels.
Former Huron East Mayor Joe Seili informed ward representatives of Huron East that certain
residents in Brussels have properties that are cluttered with litter, among many other complaints
relating to property standards.
Seili says Brussels not treated like Seaforth

Former Huron East Mayor
Joe Seili is exhausted by the
number of complaints coming
from Brussels inhabitants
relating to property standard.
According to some of the
accusations, Seaforth is being
treated in a much different
manner in comparison to the
town of Brussels.
These accusations were first
heard in the media airwaves
when the Brussels Legion wel-
comed roughly 40-50 "con-
cerned" residents June 16, a
meeting that was put together
by Seili. At an administration
meeting at Seaforth's memora-
ble town hall those issues were
discussed with Grey Coun.
Alvin McLellan chairing the
gathering. In the crowd, Tuck-
ersmith Ward representative,
Ray Chartrand, Brussels Ward
Councillor David Blainey and
Grey Coun. Dianne Diehl
were also in attendance.
Seili said when he wakes up
in the morning, on his Brussels
property, it's common for him
to fill up a half bag of garbage,
or witness houses with over-
grown grass, refrigerators in
front yards, vehicles parked on
the sidewalks and in worst
cases in the middle of the road.
We used to have a sign at the edge of
town, 'Ontario's prettiest village.' There
has been a few people that want to
change the sign to Ontario's prettiest
dump and when you're a ratepayer of
Brussels, I take offense to that,"

"When I go to work, I have
to go on the wrong side of the
road, to get around some of
this stuff and that's not right
because there (are) a lot of
people walking on the streets
in Brussels at night,"
explained Seili with a tone of
distress in his voice.
He told McLellan he had
already sent a list of con-
cerns to him personally,
however the Grey Coun. said
the documents were not
signed and to further those
complaints the proper pro-
tocol hadn't been followed.
'If you need my signature
on it and the paper wants to
print it, I'll be dam glad to put
it on," stated Seili, standing a
couple feet away from a pic-
ture with him in it when he
was the mayor of Huron East.
"I did in the past when I
was mayor on some of these
properties," continued Seili.
Alvin asked. "So when you
were mayor did you follow
up on them as well, to see if
they were going through the
process?"
Seili said he let the staff
follow procedure and admit-
ted to not "micromanaging"
his fellow colleagues at the
time. However, he went on to
say that he has left politics
and he's getting tired of "get-
ting dragged back into it."
"We used to have a sign at
the edge of town, 'Ontario's
prettiest village.' There has
been a few people that want
to change the sign to Ontar-
io's prettiest dump and when
you're a ratepayer of Brus-
sels, I take offense to that,"
stated Seili June 28.
"I've dr(iven) through Sea -
forth, and I don't see this
stuff in Seaforth."
With the 2017 Interna-
tional Plowing Match and
Rural Expo being held in
Walton, Seili said this would
be an opportunity to settle

these disputes.
Ray Chartrand asked to
speak on the matter. In the
last seven or so months, he
said there have been about
four complaints from Sea -
forth to Vanastra that he has
personally been involved
with.
"One was on Highway 8,
every time you drove into
Seaforth, you saw garbage
and trailers," Chartrand

stated. 'All four of them the
process worked, the resi-
dents filled out a form, they
signed it and in all four cases
the properties were cleaned
up."
Seili told the group of
Huron East representatives,
"the last time I checked we
all paid the same millrate, all
the people of Brussels are
asking is for the same ser-
vice," as Seaforth.
