In the same breath, being the town's newest hockey team comes with its own set of challenges; cur- rently they're searching for more families to open their doors to their most recent editions. Since April 15, when the three owners walked into the Seaforth & District Community Centre to sign their ice deals, brothers Tom and Matt Flessatti and T.J. Runhart have signed nine players from afar. Fol- lowing the lead of five experienced scouts, one goalie, three defenseman and six forwards, will be sporting the orange and green Generals jerseys for the 2016-2017 season. However, seeing as these players are travelling quite a distance to play for the Seaforth team, a place to call home is essential. With say- ing that, the Generals, which are one of 11 teams in the Canadian Premier Junior Hockey League (CPJHL) have come up with the Seaforth Generals Billet Family Program. This curriculum pays families willing to house an out-of- town player $500 monthly as well as providing season passes to home games for all the members of the family as well as invitations to exclusive team events. Upon being accepted every family must undergo a home visit by owner TJ Runhart. "It takes special people to open their doors and hearts to our play- ers and we take the utmost care to ensure our players are placed in environments that are conducive to care, understanding and safety," stated Runhart July 1. Runhart said all the boys require is a clean welcoming home, their own room with a bed and good mattress, together with a desk/workspace for homework. Nutritious meals and snacks would also be man- datory along with the enforcement of a curfew, community engagement and since the General's are so keen on education, academic stand- ards are a must, Runhart told the Expositor. These values and principals are the building blocks for "success," to become a great player not only on the ice but as well as off, said Runhart. "It's a rewarding experience and it helps put some cash in people's pockets," Runhart said. "The Gen- erals could not operate without support of so many great billet families in our community." If anybody is interested regard- ing the Billet Family Program, con- tact Runhart by phone at 519-301- 7016 or by email at Runhart22@ hotmail.com Also, tryout camp will be going on from August 6-7 with four and a half hours of ice time at a cost of $40 a player. Runhart went on to say around that time they will be looking for local talent to fill six to seven spots. Huron Expositor The Seaforth Generals hockey team is signing players left and right, but at the moment they are struggling with finding homes for the players to stay. Local soccer scores U18 Girls St. Columban U 18 girls had a tough, 4-0 loss on Wednesday June 22, 2016 on their home pitch against Seaforth. Everyone put up a great effort and passed well right up until the end. Goalie, Sarah Van Bakel, made many great saves throughout the game. Many thinks to both Khloe Eisler and Sarah for playing up from their U 15 team. Ulf Girls On June 16 the U11 girls traveled to first place Clinton's pitch. With Hannah Nolan and Chelsea VandenHeuvel taking turns between the pipes and dealing with sun's glare, our remaining girls knew they would need to give it all, to pull off a win. The girls took control of the game, and played the majority of the match in Clinton's end. St. Columban had numerous chances, but finally hit the mesh with a kick by Chelsea, assisted by Sheana Beuermann. St.Columban won the battle 1-0, which was Clinton's only lost so far. Good work girls! On June 23, St. Columban hosted the St. Mary's squad. This was their first match -up of the season. The girls were able to keep the ball in St. Mary's end most of the game, but did have some break downs where the vis- itors nearly scored. Courtney Roth opened the scoring, and ended the game with 2 goals. Another 2 goals came from Malina Cronin. Kiera Dietz notched a goal, by bringing the ball from the sidelines in and drilling a shot between the posts. Single markers came from Haylie Murch, Hannah Nolab, and Campbell Ryan.
