What a breakfast
Last Friday my larger
than life household
and me crowded into
the minivan and headed
down to the fire hall. At
first, not realizing it was
Canada Day, we were all
pretty much dressed in
green because I think it's
pretty darn cool to match. I
look at it like any sports
club, they all wear the same
jerseys and attire and my
family is the same, as my
daughter would say, "we a
team daddy!' That's right
Gavriella. Back to the col-
umn- I thought to myself,
it's not Earth Day Einstein,
so we all changed into red
to symbolize our Canadian
culture. Along with repre-
senting our country, which
is the second largest in the
world, compiled of about 10
million square kilometres,
not only was this

day to celebrate the 1867
confederation, it also came
with the celebration of the
most important meal of the
day and my tummy was
more than growling in
anticipation for the 2016
Seaforth Firefighters' Break-
fast. Seeing as July 3 is the
one-year anniversary of
when I left my family for
two months to pursue my
lifelong dream of journal-
ism in the beautiful town of
Seaforth, I had never heard
about this delicious event.
I'm not going to lie, before
arrival I was expecting this
feast to peak out at about 50
Seaforthians (I just made
that nickname on the fly by
the way). Boy was I ever
wrong. There were cars all
over Main Street, vehicles
parked in the grass next to
the Optimist Club Park and
the lineup honestly started
from the fire hall and ended
at Main Street. Seaforth's
District Chief, Tom Phillips
told me this annual break of
day affair welcomes any-
where from 1500-2000 peo-
ple. Although we had to
wait for an hour in line I
didn't mind as my son
Grayson put on a show for
the crowd as he constantly
stomped in the puddles
while onlookers cheered
him on. After the wait was
over and my son was oaked,
food heaven awaited. The
aroma of spiced hash
browns, perfectly cooked
eggs, succu lent sausages,
fried bacon and pancakes
filled the air.
The firefighters were
dressed in red and instead
of saving lives, they were
saving me from having to
make a breakfast. Believe
me, if what they were
cooking up was to be
judged on a level system,
I'm going to have put them
at university level and my
breakfast skills would be
at a kindergarten echelon.
All I can say is thank you
to those fine fire- fighters
for keeping us safe and
filling thousand of bellies.
Signing out from my messy
desk, Shaun AKA, the guy
who needs to jump on a
treadmill because I ate too
much breakfast.
On Canada Day, my son Grayson, 2, splashes in a
puddle while the locals wait in line at the annual
Seaforth Firefighters' Breakfast.
