Bingo for the seniors of the community

In acknowledgment of Seniors'
Month in Ontario, Seaforth Manor
Retirement and Long Term Care
held a game of bingo which was
not only for a good cause but also
stimulated a bond with other local
golden-agers.
Every June for the last 32 years,
older folks are recognized for
their more than important pur-
pose in the world, this month's
theme is "Seniors Making a
Difference:'
"It's in recognition for Seniors'
Month and we wanted to do some-
thing for the seniors' in our com-
munity, so we decided to have a lit-
tle bit of a fun afternoon," said the
general manager of SMRLTC,
Cathy Stewart.
Approximately 30 contestants
were equipped with numerous
different coloured daubers, the
group met at the Seaforth and
District Community Centre June
29. The day event welcomed any-
body no matter their age to try his
or her luck in seven games of
bingo. A big plus to make it seem
like the real deal, SDCC lent out
their professional style bingo
blower.
As there were two victors in the
last match, a total of eight winners
were rewarded with gift cards.
Before entering the participants
were to pay the admission fee of a
food item, which in turn was
donated to the Seaforth & District
Foodbank. Stewart called it a "dou-
ble community event" - in total
two boxes of goods were
contributed.
Stewart, who played bingo as
well, was asked if she walked away
a winner. She replied with a no.
"Of course not, I never win at
bingo," she said giggling.
The seniors' took great pleasure
in the event; they asked if it could
be done again in the future.

million set to be talked about

The last of the required Commu-
nity Liaison Meetings relating to
the St. Columban Wind Project are
finished. Being aware of the situa-
tion, the municipality of Huron
East will have a potential Vibrancy
Fund on the council's next
package.
Huron East CAO Brad Knight
said it's not definite, however, "it
will spike some interest from
council."
"It may be something to con-
sider," he said.
Huron East Against Turbines
(HEAT) has asked council numer-
ous times to not accept the
Vibrancy Fund. An investment that
equates to $115,000 annually over
20 years, which works out to be
$2.3 million in total.
It will be discussed at the next
Huron East council meeting on
July 19 at 7 p.m. in Seaforth's town
hall.
