With less than a week before
Christmas, the Huron Song Cho-
rus and their musically inclined
guests made the audience feel
like it was December 25 by giv-
ing the packed crowd the gift of
holiday sound.
Filled from the top level to
the bottom December 19 at the
Northside United Church in
Seaforth, hundreds made an
appearance for the Huron Song
Chorus Benefit Concert, a con-
siderate endeavour solely put
forth for the local Women's
Shelter.
The director of the Huron
Song Chorus, Deborah Bailey
disclosed that the event col-
lected just shy of $5,000.
"Every penny that comes
through that door goes to the
(Women's Shelter)," explained
Bailey while also mentioning
since the concert began, six
years ago, it's raised more than
$30,000.
"The people at the door were
from the Women's Shelter, so
that way we do not touch the
money and it goes directly to
them."
Upon finishing a volunteer
course with her daughter, Bailey
admired what the organization
was about, so after a few other
charitable projects including a
concert for the Huron Hospice,
she said this was something she
wanted to keep doing for years
to come.
"We are all volunteers we love
to sing and it's (amazing) the fact
that we could then put that to
good use:'
The young native Sills boys
dressed in red and black, put on
a stoic performance, Bailey said
a big part of their success is
their inheritance of melody
from both their mother and
father who are musicians as
well.
As they performed their father
directed them from a distance.
"I invited the boys to be guests
as well as the Suncoast Brass
Quartet and the cello player;" she
said.
