Mitchell Nelson:
Dead bearded drifter
washes ashore near
Goderich, police need
help with real ID
Postmedia staff
Police have renewed
requests for the public's help
in identifying a bearded trav-
eller whose body washed
ashore near Goderich six
weeks ago.
They're hoping just a tid-
bit of information might
provide the break needed
to identify the man,
believed to be in his mid -
50s, said OPP Const. Jamie
Stanley.
Police believe he is the
same man interviewed by
some journalists as he cycled
across northern Ontario
towing a canoe.
That man told reporters
that his name was Mitchell
Nelson, that he was home-
less by choice and that he

In mid-October, the body
of a man, who was wearing
a life -jacket, washed ashore
on Lake Huron. He
matched the description of
the cyclist/canoeist, but
"Mitchell Nelson" might
have been an alias or a par-
tial name.
Stanley said neither the
man's canoe nor his bicycle
have been found.
They do know that the
man is not Rick Small, a
Thunder Bay adventurer
whose homemade boat
washed ashore in Ireland
two weeks ago.
Though police are still try-
ing to find Small — a poten-
tial mystery man who, like

Kindergarten class donates to the
Christmas Bureau to help children in need

The St. James Catholic
School kindergartens
marched to the bank single
file November 30-$193 heav-
ier- with the ultimate objec-
tive of improving an unfortu-
nate child's Christmas.
Upon explaining to the
students the logistics of the
Huron County Christmas
Bureau, their teachers, Mrs.
Kramer and Mrs. DeJong
asked for them to bring a
donation to class. No spe-
cific bar had to be met, any
amount of money, no matter
how small would be greatly
appreciated, added Kramer.
This task may have been
accomplished through sim-
ple chores around the house.
One little girl let go of her hot
chocolate habit at the Sea -
forth arena and put the cou-
ple of dollars towards help-
ing a family in need.
"We were very proud of
them and they all were all so
excited to tell us how they
raised the money," stated
Kramer through a telephone

conversation a couple hours
after the charity initiative.
"Some of them were vacu-
uming and putting things
away at home."
While the boys and girls
benefited in learning how to
give rather than to get,
Kramer noted that this day
also honed their school skills
as well.
"They went through the
flyers in the wish book," she
said. "We graphed out toys,
clothes and jewellery."
Shaun Gregory
"There was tons of math."
After hitting the bank and
sending their own letters to
Santa Claus, they were
bound for Sills Home Hard-
ware. They walked away with
many toys including those
encompassing the current
popular themes of Paw
Patrol and Frozen, the high-
est grossing animated film.
On December 2, the
Huron Christmas Bureau
picked up the gifts from the
school.
