It matters not how others esteemed
her, those who have the right by
nature to call her by that dear nanie
:wouldloe unfilial children indeed, if

they 'could lay away the dead, form,
hot but the sign and shadow of the
energetic motherhood and devotion -
that nurtured their early and, helpless
lives, without sighs and tears and mem-

briea that stir tine soul to its deepest
depths
W-ii. these thoughts we come . to
lend our sympathies to these of our
friends whose sad duty it.. is to put
away .from their mortal .sight the
beloved face _that looked upon their
innocent . and helpless • infancy; and
the heart -that beat and warm and anx-
iously for her children. when the
world knew it not. These rise IT

each had enough of, persona l vissisude
. and sorrow to sober their' judgements,

and submitted good and strong reasons
why a court should1 be established
in that village for thei convenience. of
the public, On the ether hand the
only apponents of _thei Court to give
evidence were a couple of bailiffs and
other; officials who con tended that their
salaries would be too small if the just
claims of Chesley were granted. This
in Or opinion, was the only ground.
taken by a majority of the "Board"
why the wish of the People was not
granted. We considered it wring at
the tune and do so still. Both' Ches-
ley and Lucknow are justly entitled
to i Division Court, and wouH have
one if the representative of the 'County
Council Could have done so.

Mary Ann Gordon; was born. ii.ear
the city of Toronto, Ont., Aug. -5th

1829, making the period of her earthly
life 64 years, 2 months and 5 clays.
In the vicinity of her birth place she '
spent her early_ Fre and grew to young
womanhood. When twenty years of
age she was marred to Robert Hadwen
now 44 years • since, and with whom
the greater part of their married life •
was spent in Ontario Canada, .living
near Toronto after marriage, then in
York County for some 7 yeara. and
then moving. near Lucknow, Bruce
County, Where she continued to reside
with her husband till tha setttement of
the northweh drew •hini to Fargo, this
state,in 1877. She followed in 1878;
Two years they removed to WhEiatlanil
land and Were anlong its earliestsettlers,
contributing their due share of energy
and entetprise for the development ot
both town .and surrounding country.
Mrs. Haden was converted to God 'in
her girlhood and joined the .Methodist.
churoh was one of "marked activity in
the cause ofreligion, and SO her child-
ren testify as warmly as they witness
to her. 'devoted moth.erhood. Though
of a strong vigorious and - active physi-
cal nature one month after the untime-
ly death of her husband, which occured
here at Wheatland in 1890, she suffer-
ed stroke of paralysis from whichshe •
never fully recovered. During-. these
three years of almost physical helpless-
ness she has been a great sufferer, but
during seasons of partial recovery she
ha i visited her sister in Canada and
has resided in the .West for a time
with her youngest daughter, Mrs.
