HERE
The country roads are m
condition just now. Farmers say that
a heavy rain is needed. The snow is
in large banks on both sides of the
thorough -fares, and the wheeling in
many localities is decidedly bad.
A Bad Out
Mr. 'Neil McInnes, of Kinloss, while
framing timber at McC/arroll's mill on
Thursdly last, met with a very pain-
ful accident and one that will confine
him to the house for some time. The
axe glanced off the timber he was
working sit and struck him on the
knee, cutting a deep gash some four or
five inches in length.
WE ARE AGAIN.
Perhaps you have won-
dered at our silence, but we
have been so busy during the
past two months taking .stock,
and, checking off and marking
new goods that really we had
not time to tell the people
what we.weredoing ; and then
• generally there are. not so,
many things to call the atten-
7
tion of the public to, during
the transition from one season
to another. But here we are
again, and so is our spring
stock which is now open for
, inspection, and which we con-
sider better value than any we
have ever shown. With th6
advent of warmer weather
your wants will be quite num-
erous, and if it is your desire
to satisfy them come in and
' see what we are showing. At
present we notice that Dress -
goods, Corsets, Kid Gloves,
Felt Hats, Boots & Shoes are
moving more rapidly than
usual. See what we are offer-
ing in these lines. And rem-
ember t hat we' sell groceries
cheap. Special lines in teas;
and 21 lbs. granulated, sugar,
best make, for $1.00.
Arm Dislocated
On Friday last, Mr. John Gordon,
of St. i elens. met witli rather a pe-
culiar, though none the less painful
accident He was feeding the cattle
in his stable, aud while carrying a
isaeasure of turnips in the.passage-way
behind the aaimals, received a kick on
the arm from a cow, which dislocated
ths shoulder joint.
In Manitoba
Ncre take the following from the
Neepawa, Registen_edited by Mr. C. H.
Mathers, formerly of Kinloss. "Two
business men from Lucknow, our home.
village in Ontario, are likely to locate'
in neighboring towns—T. G. Anderson
in the general store business at Arden,
and G. W. Berry & Son in drugs at
Minnedosa. Mr. Berry went west on
Tuesday to supersede J. K. Patton."
We also learn from the 'same paper
that Cameron, brother of Mr.
A. D. Cameron, of West Wawanosh,
was: seriously injured at a recent fire
in Neepawa.
Spring Show
The annual spring show of the Kin-
loss Branch Agricultural Society will
be held in Lucknow, on Tuesday, April
12th, commencing at 1 o'clock, p.m.,
and if the weather proves favorable a
large crowd will .be in attendance.
The prizes offered by the society are
the best given. b.y any of the local
shows'and should bring together the4
finest horses in the section.
Gone to the Wall
The people of Brussels and, vicinity'
were startled by the announcement
that -McIntosh & Taggart, private
bankers, had auspended, and that the
manager and senior partner had gone
to parts unknown. The firm Iiave
been carrying on busiaesa at Brussels
for about fifteen years, and enjoyed
the confidence of the whole community,
and in consequence there are many
dePositors. They were believed to
have had many years of prosperity,
and to be comparatively wealthy. and
it wag Only on the opening of a binned
of the Standard Band' last April that
their business showed signs of decay.
Much sympathy is felt for. Mr. Mc-
Intosh, who is regarded by all as
strictly straight forward man, and the
concensus• of opinion is that the
trouble arose from weak judgments
rattier than dishonesty.
Sons of Scotland ,
On Thursday evening last, Deputy
Grand Chief, A. Campbell, assisted by
Mr. Hugh Clarke,of Kincardine organ-
ized a lodge of the Sons of Scetland in•
this village. The new society starts
out, under the most favorable auspices,
and after 'the inaugural meeting, the
organizer and his assistant were suit-
ably entertained by the brethren. The,
following is a list of the officers: Past
Chief, Wm. Anderson; Chief, Alex.
McPherson ; Chieftain, J. C. Brown;
Chaplain, D. Patterson.; • Rec.-Sec. J.
Murchison ; Treasurer, I/ D. Yule;
Standard Bearer, H. Morrison; .Mar-
shal, D. Geddes'S. G., M. Campbell,

oh Girls, Read This
The Hamilton Times remarks as
follows: While Mr. • Mowat is trying
to keep the boys of Ontario from learn-
ing to use tobacco, couldn't he spare a
chunk of his "best censideration" for
the girls who chew gum? The nasty
creatures wag 'their jaws like a pair of
sheep -shears, they won't answer when
they are spoken to, they stick stale
chew S to the table legs and the head-
board of the bed, • and they spread
diphtheria and other malignant dis-
eases through the school sections by
swapping chews. Tobacco is bad
enough, but who ever saw anyone
• ,laorrow a chew of it from his neigh-
bor's mouth. Go for the gums Mr.

Death Of Hiram Morgan.
The death of Mr. Hiram Moirgan re-
moves one of Kincardine's best known
citiiens from the sphere of life. He
had not been in good health. for some
time and died on Thursday morning,
March 17th., in the 49thyearof his age.
He conducted a hotel in Lucknow for
one year, then came to Kincardine and
took charge of the Commercial which
he conducted till the time of his death.
A widow, three daughters and one son

cunt and vidattii Novo. and of the A. 0. F. also marched in
procession to the cemetery. • The pro-
cession was one of the largest ever seen
in Kincardine, their being over 150
society members present. Hiram Mor-

A Novel Plan
Mr. D. D. Yule, president of' the
Lucknow Mechanics' Institute, might
learn a lesson from the ladies of Otsego,
Mich:, who recently undertook to pay
off a library debt, and who succeeded,
and then held a. public experience
meeting, which also netted a good
round sum. They raised the wind ih
various. avays. MPS, Miller ,put trim-
mings on tt coffin; Miss Beard dressed
as an Irish peasant maid arid sold
shamrocks on the highways on St.
P atrick's Day ; Mrs. Miles, President
of the association'washed windows on
a step. ladder ; Miss. Creyan earned
her mite by selling, a spring Poem to
an editor. one Miss sold kisses at 50
c ents apiece, and many ethers raised
their Jim -es in equally pleasant and
p eculiar ways. How would it do for
directors J. 5—, and Alex. McP—
to sell kisses at 50 cents apiece They
are very liissable.looking young men.
This is leap year, and the ladies would
