A Bad Fall
Mr. Wm. Burns, of this village, had
a narrow escape from fatal accident on
Thurssday`'last. He was assisting Mr,

his balance he fell backwards from the
stack to the ground, a distance of nine
or ten feet. In the fall he struck
against a ladder, and although
no bonds were broken he was badly
bruised, and for several days was
unable to leave the house.

Truancy Law enacted by the• Ontario
Legislature is. now in force, compelling
children from 8 to 14 years to attend
school. Parents neglecting this sire
liable to ;i fine ()'f >~r, to $20. But this
is not all, a corporation or municipal-
ity neglecting to appoint an officer to
enforce the law is liable to a fine of
from .$25 to $50. This is dead earnest
and there will be no chance for fooling
this tern)- Don t try ,any dodging or
you may get,lcft.

of the greatest marvels of the a,ge—the

repeat the exact words uttered by the
parties talking into it. Everybody
can have the privilege of using it.

congratulated on having secured such
