In the speeding contest Mr. W. J.
Little, of Lucknow, captured the first
prize in the two open trotting contests
with Mr. J. Has'ty, second. In the
running . contest Mr. James Young
took first and Mr. A.,. 'McGroty,
second.
ASHFIELD.
The Queen's natal day passed off
quietly in this vicinity.
The Zion Sabbath School intend to
get up a pic-nic, but. have not yet de-
cided where it shall` be held.
Dr. Strongman, pastor of the Ash-
field circuit, has been seriously ill for
some time, but we are glad to see he
is recovering.
Mr. John Dowering, Lucknow,
preached in .Zion church last Sabbath
very acceptably. Mr..R. Barnby, who
has been attending the McGi]1 College;
Montreal, was also' present.
W. J. \Vilson, 12th con., while saw-
ing last week with his circular saw in
steam sawmill, "accidently let the saw
come in contact With one of tho dogs
and broke some teeth out of it and in)
jured others.

and improved ; while a large amount of
money 'had been raised to improve and
relieve other church properties.
Henry J, Miller' was granted his
standing ns having travelled one year
when his studies are completed. 13e
was also recommended to attend college
in -the ensuing year.

acceptable sermon on the evening of
the,first day. The Financial meetinz

tender of $60.00 for the weigh scales

tender for gravel to be delivered wher-
ever directed at the following prices :
Street gravel at 17 Cts. per yard ; side-
walk gravel at 17 cts. per yard ;

Seeding is about completed and the
general request of .the farmer is a good
warm rain.
Mr. Boyd, of Belfast, paid our school
a visit last week, and • was very highly
pleased with the standing, of the
scholars in the different classes and
expressed great praise of the appear-
ance. and equipment of the school room.
