This week's non-profit is Family Services Perth -Huron. Justine Alkema Clinton News Record Family Services is a large non-profit with satellite offices throughout Perth - Huron in Stratford, Listowel and Clinton. The organizations pro- vides help for families in all kinds of ways such as coun- seling, hospice, credit coun- seling and various support services. Different offices offer spe- cific programs. For example, counseling and hospice is geared to Perth County. Clinton's office provides the adult protective service workers program. "This program assists adults with developmental disabilities to live more inde- pendently in their commu- nity," said Executive Director Susan Melkert. "It's to help them in different areas whether it's getting housing, keeping housing, getting help getting to appointments - whatever they need to get independent" Clinton's office also pro- vides a program which part- ners people with develop- mental disabilities and a family to live with, similar to a foster home. Credit counseling service is also provided out of Clinton. "For individuals and fam- ily who might have faced financial difficulty through job loss, illness, family break up, etc., we can help them work through a budget, work through their debt and point them in the right direction." Different services are operated out of different areas because of the way the non-profit evolved with funding and seeing different needs in different places. The non-profit started in 1974 through the Catholic Diocese, though today it is not affiliated with any denomination. It originally focused on individuals, fam- ily and martial counselling, but it has evolved since then to assist with a wider variety of needs. The organization has around 50 full time employ- ees and over 70 volunteers. if it's local, it's here clintonnewsrecord.com Raffle4or Clinton 'fisto park/splish pfd/playground; Contributed photo Approximately $1000 was raised from 234 tickets for the new equipment coming to Clinton Park at a raffle at the Huron Fish & Game Conservation Association this weekend.
