Alysha Kipfer, 21, stands in front of Madica Tan Lines in Seaforth September 1. She has recently purchased the
business off the previous owner.
Young woman buys tanning salon in Seaforth
Shaun Gregory
Postmedia Network
It's not everyday that you hear
of a 21 -year-old taking full own-
ership of an existing company.
Alysha Kipfer from Winthrop
is living proof that this not -so -
common ingenuity is possible.
After hearing Madica Tan
Lines in Seaforth was up for
sale, she went with her gut
feeling.
"My mom kind of jolted about
me buying it, I was like, yeah,
right, good one mom," Kipfer said
at her open house where the pub-
lic had the chance to meet the
new tanning salon's owner on
September 1. "I thought about it
and started looking into it:'
Seeing as the local from just up
the road has been working at the
establishment for the last three to
four years, she decided to move
forward with her mind -set.
After a lot of phone calls and
transferring, it was official, and on
August 22 Kipfer was the busi-
nesses new owner.
Kipfer said at the moment, eve-
rything will stay the same, includ-
ing the name, phone number and
types of services available for
customers.
Given the fact that she is the
owner, people have asked if there
will be new initiatives like false
eyelashes or flip flops.
"For now, I'm going to see how
it goes and go from there," she
said.
Clinton Family Health Team offering free
Advanced Care Planning Workshop in September
The Clinton Family Health
Team (CFHT) aims to support
patients in making educated
medical decisions that respect
their beliefs, values, and desires.
Creating an Advanced Care
Plan (or "living will") is one way
to achieve this. It gives you a
voice when you are no longer
able to do so.
If you are in an accident or
have an illness that leaves you
unable to express your wishes
or what type of care you desire,
an Advanced Care Plan informs
your loved ones and medical
team about your wishes. It
allows you to share your
thoughts about the many com-
plex decisions about care and
treatment to be made, based on
your personal values, beliefs
and preferences.
The CFHT is offering 2 free
sessions to assist people with
completing an Advanced Care
Plan.
The sessions aim to:
Increase your awareness of
the types of life-sustaining treat-
ments that are available
Assist you in deciding what
treatments you want, or do not
want, if you have a terminal
illness
Assist you in completing the
"Speak Up" Advanced Care
Planning Workbook to share
your end -of -life wishes with
trusted loved ones and your
medical team
The first session will focus on
explaining the process of com-
pleting an Advanced Care Plan,
provide real-world examples,
and answer questions.
The sessions will be led by
CFHT's Agnes Waaders, nurse
practitioner, Julie Talbot, social
worker, Dr. Erin Ross, psycholo-
gist, as well as Jenn Bums, repre-
sentative from the Alzheimer's
Society, to provide an interactive
discussion that answers your
questions regarding this process.
Guest speaker, Quinn Ross,
senior lawyer at The Ross Firm
will also discuss issues related to
Power of Attorney for Personal
Care and appointing substitute
decision makers.
The first session will be held
on Thursday, September 29,
from 1 to 3 p.m. in the basement
of the Clinton Health Centre
(across from the Clinton Hospi-
tal at 105 Shipley St).
Sessions are free and open to
all, but registration is required.
We encourage attendees to
bring along a trusted family
member or friend to share in
the discussion and process. To
register, call 519-482-3000. For
more information about
Advanced Care Planning in
general, you can visit www.
