Relook Nook owner Nina Turner is retiring and passing the store she started on to its new owner, Londoner Kan Vinas Justine Alkema Clinton News Record Last week, Nina Turner, for- mer owner of Clinton's own Relook Nook, turned the own- ership of her shop to Londoner Kan Vinas. Turner started the consign- ment store eight years ago. It started as Treasures Past and Present and sold gently used furniture until clothing was incorporated around five years ago. The new addition was called Relook Nook with Treas- ures Past and Present still there on the side. Turner had actually planned on retiring 11 years ago after a career in transportation. "Going into retail gave me the opportunity to come to a new place and meet all kinds of wonderful people," said Turner. Tumer commented that busi- ness over the years was great; they were well supported by the community. However after eight years, she felt the time was finally right to retire, and she put the store up for sale. That was when Vinas saw the posting. Vinas is a full time accountant in London, and this is the first retail store he has owned. He owned one other business, an electrical wholesale store, but sold it ten years ago. "I believe there is great potential in Clinton, said Vinas. "It's a very welcoming commu- nityto be a part of [...] I was not looking specifically for a cloth- ing store, but when I saw this business, I fell in love with it. I think it provides a service that Clinton requires:' Vinas is planning on keeping much of the store the same, however he is hoping to bring in some more home decor and provide alterations and tailor- ing services. Also, candle mak- ing is a hobby of Vmas, and he hopes to create and sell a locally made candle line. Since Vinas will continue liv- ing in London, he will do more behind the scenes work. He has hired a store manager, Janet Simons, to run the Relook Nook day to day. "My goal is to contribute to the community, and I get great pleasure out of that;" said Vinas.
