Clinton Sporting Goods brings new niche to Clinton's retail Justine Alkema Clinton News Record A young entrepreneur from Auburn is setting up shop in Clinton with Clinton Sporting Goods. On September 10, 21 year old Greg Roetcisoender hosted the grand opening for his store which sells fire arms, ammu- nition, reloading supplies, hunting acces- sories, gun safes, targets and more. They specialize in everything related to hunting. Most of their stock in made in Canada, for example they get dear supplements from Buck On in Simcoe. They also buy used guns, take trade-ins and sell on consignment. Roetcisoender's grandfather owned a similar store growing up, and when he got old enough, he wanted to do the same. "I grew up shooting with my grandfa- ther," said Roetcisoender. His work experience includes bricklaying and dry walling, so opening a retail store is very new for him. He is excited about the new experience and change of pace. His mom and grandfather help with the store, making it a true family business. The closest similar store to Greg's is in Wingham, so this store will bring hunting supplies closer to home for Central Huron residents. The shop which has been in the works for over ayear is now open on highway 8 for the public to come in and check out. r-71 0,i'Ae Huron Superior Memorials • MONUMENTS • FLAT MARKERS • INSCRIPTIONS Appointments in the privacy of your own home anytime MICHAEL S. Others may have wished that the summer could have lasted a bit longer. Regardless, it was the same for every student on September 6 - school was back in session. C.H.S.S. has some signifi- cant changes to their building after construction over the summer. Their science wing was completely gutted from floor to ceiling, and four brand new labs were put in with improved infrastructure, plumbing, walls and equipment. "The science labs here at C.H.S.S. were old and tired," said principal George McE- wan. "So this is great:' They also have new banners up above the main doors. Enrolment this year at C.H.S.S. is at just under 500 students, which is where they expected to be. That is slightly less than last year as they are down around 15 students. However this follows demo- graphic projections as people are generally having less chil- dren and in rural communities less young people are staying in the area. St. Anne's is slightly larger with just under 600 students, ELME TO THE ZOi -17 SCHOOL YEAR Justine Alkema Clinton News Record C.H.S.S.'s sign on September 6, the first day back to school. though their grade 9 class is a few students smaller than in previous years. St. Anne's theme this year is "Let your Light Shine": "This theme comes from scripture, and it's the idea that we're being called to let our lights shine academically, spir- itually, creativity, etc," said principal Karen Tigani. "It's about being the best person you can be doing our best work" Most of St. Anne's was freshly painted over the sum- mer giving the halls a bright, new look. They've also estab- lished a room called "learning commons" which will be avail- able throughout the day for students who would like addi- tional support. Another new program at St. Anne's is they have added five nutrition and foods courses, which they have not had in the past. They are doing this in cooperation with REACH, so students will use the kitchen at REACH during these courses. Along with this, they also have a new high skills major in health and wellness.
