Lots planned for Clinton for Canada's 150th Justine Alkema Clinton News Record Next year's Pluckin Fest will be a bigger weekend than ever in Clinton. Pluckin Fest from July 6-9, 2017 will be in conjunc- tion with Canada's 150th celebrations through the Central Huron Canada 150 committee. All kinds of groups in town are coming together to celebrate this huge milestone for Can- ada. So far, those groups include REACH, the raceway, Kinsmen, Kinettes and Optimists. "It will definitely be an event," said Central Huron councilor Alison Lobb. Lobb brought the idea for Clinton's 150th celebra- tions to council around six months ago. The idea ended up catching on more with the Kinsmen, and they took the lead on the project Three council representa- tives sit on the committee - Mayor Ginn and Council- lors Dan Colquhoun and Alison Lobb. All the normal Pluckin Fest activities will still take place that weekend, however many more 150th celebrations will simply be added. The extent of the activi- ties will depend on funding the group receives. The committee is applying to the Ontario 150 grant which funds celebrations for the country's 150th birthday. However they won't k n ow if they'll receive that or not for a few months still. If they do receive the grant, that would cover 75% of the costs of the cel- ebration. The committee also recently received $10,000 from council for the event. They will be looking for additional sponsors as well. For now, the group is holding off on booking much, since they don't know how much funding they will get. However, they have tons of ideas of what they'd like to do. First of all, they would like to put on an extensive fireworks show. Some of their other ideas include a ball tournament, euchre tournament, garden con- test, kid's activities and much more. "We're hoping it'll be pretty impressive," said Lobb.
