Radars win opener in a shootout
on banner night on October 14
In their home opener against
the Milverton Four Wheel Drives,
the Clinton Radars eeked out a
shootout win by a score of 5-4.
Sean Consitt's third goal of the
game proved to be the winning
marker.
The victory gave the Radars a 3
and 0 record to begin the season.
It was Consitt's first game back as
he had suffered an injury during
the summer.
In the first period at 15:23 while
on a power play, Mike Jarmouth's
slap shot from the slot area gave
Clinton a 1-0 lead after taking a
drop pass from Tyler Doig.
Deryk Whitehead was instru-
mentally involved with starting
the rush. With 40 seconds left in
the opening stanza and while
playing shorthanded, Consitt's
first goal was a beauty as Tyler
Doig fed him a pass after deicing
the goalie and giving Consitt a
look at a wide-open cage. It was
certainly a highlight real goal.
In the middle frame at 7:23,
Milverton's Brent Freeman cut
the Radar's lead to 2-1 as he beat
Marc Nother from close in. But at
9:06 Consitt stuck again as he
slammed in his second goal with
Josh Cornelissen and Brenden
Dale doing much of the
spadework.
After that goal, the Radars
seemed to fall asleep throughout
the last ten minutes of the period
as the Drives scored three unan-
swered goals at 11:41, 16:10 and
17:15 to close out the period lead-
ing the Radars by a 4-3 count.
In the third period, the Radars
stormed the Milverton zone as
Milverton's goalie made many
tremendous saves. But at 10:40,
the Radar's Ryan Murphy finally
shoveled one past the goalie on a
wild scramble in front of the net.
Luke Vick picked up the only
assist.
In the overtime session, both
teams played in tentatively for
five minutes. This led to a
shootout as three shooters were
picked to try to end the contest.
The radars outscored the Four
Wheel Drives two goals to one.
Scoring for Clinton were Tyler
Doing and Sean Consitt.
In the contest, the Radars were
penalized 30 minutes while the
Drives picked up 26 minutes in
the sin bin on banner night. Last
year's championship banner for
winning the Senior AA Champi-
onship was unveiled before the
started of the game.
Nother shines as Radars down
Petrolia 5-3 on October 7
On Friday, October 7,
Joey's Corner
Joe Livermore
the Clinton Radars travelled to
Petrolia to take on the Squires.
The Radar's goalie put on a goal -
tenders display as he stopped 40
shots to help the Radars win 5-3.
Many of the saves were on the
spectacular side. It was Marc
Nother's second win of the
season.
Even though the Radars had a
short bench with only 12 skaters
dressed for the contest, Nother's
baled the Radars out several
times during the game.
The Radar's star forward, Luke
Vick, opened up the scoring in
the first period when his slap shot
from the left circle found the cage
with Paul Bowden picking up the
helper.
Just four minutes later, Randy
Kilburn gave Clinton a 2-0 lead at
10:45 as his booming slap shot

from the point found the net
through a maze of payers in front
of the net.
At 12:58, Ryan Murphy scored
his first of two goals as he cashed
in on a two on one break with
Deryk Whitehead. Before the first
period had ended, the Squires
cut Clinton's lead to 3-1 at 15:44
with Kraig Wright beating Nother
on a Clinton give away.
The second period saw the
Squires outscore the Radars two
to one as Clinton took a 4-3 lead
into the third period. Ryan Mur-
phy's second goal of the game at
4:45 of the middle frame gave
Clinton a 4-1 lead, but the Squires
scored two quick goals just before
the end of the second period.
Nother had no chance on
either goal as the Radars seem to
be running out of gas as the
period wound down.
In the third period, the Radars
must have gotten their second
wind as they played a much
smarter defensive game and pro-
tected Nother on many
occasions.
While on the power play, Clin-
ton's hardworking defenseman,
Tyler Bryson, scored the Radar's
final goal at 18:39 to salt away the
victory.
