Local bird lovers getting ready for Owl Prowl
Hundreds of people to call for owls, learn
about nocturnal creatures at annual event
Hundreds of local people
have learned about amazing
local nocturnal animals at the
annual Owl Prowl.
"Owls are mysterious and
sometimes misunderstood
because they are active at night
[... Nut they adapt to this life-
style in amazing ways," said
Melissa Prout, Conservation
Educator with Ausable Bayfield
Conservation. "The Owl Prowl is
a way for people of all ages to
find out more about these spe-
cial local birds:'
This free annual event returns
on Saturday, November 5 at
Morrison Dam Conservation
Area Workshop, two kilometres
east of Exeter, just south of High-
way 83, at 71108 Morrison Line.
This year's event will feature
live owls visiting from Mounts -
berg Raptor Centre. "People
taking part at the Owl Prowl
sometimes see or hear Eastern
Screech Owls that live in or
near Morrison Dam Conserva-
tion Area," said Prout.
The hosts of the event offer
two starting times. You may
choose a 6 p.m. start time or a
7:30 p.m. start time. Each ses-
sion is to start with a short
presentation about what

makes owls unique. Then you
will have a chance to meet the
owl ambassadors from
Mountsberg, investigate owl
artefacts, and join in a moonlit,
guided night hike and call for
owls.
"It's a hoot ... literally," said
Prout.
Space is limited. Event plan-
ners ask you to please dress for
the weather and leave your
pets at home. There is no
charge to attend the event but
those taking part are welcome
to donate to conservation edu-
cation programs.
