On October 12, St. Anne's hosted the walkathon on their track. Students raised pledges from friends and family for a total of just over $16,000. This year's theme was "Shin- ing Stars", which is related to their school's overall theme this year, "Let your Light Shine': Based on this, each homeroom dressed up as different "stars". Amoung many creative ideas, one room dressed up as movie stars, one as Olympic athletes and one as all things Canadian. "A big part of the event is school spirit," said Principal Karen Tigani. The day included costume judging by the principal and vice principal for which prizes were awarded. There was walk- ing around the track, and a free, healthy lunch. In the afternoon, each students signed up for one wellness activity, for example football or dodgeball. Funds from the event went to a few places. 75% of the funds went to co -curricular activities at the school including sports, clubs and the arts. The other 25% went to charitable goals. This year's two charitable goals were students and families in need who are a part of St. Anne's and the St. Andre Bessette fund which supports families and students in need throughout Huron -Perth counties. "I'm very thankful to the wider the community who supports this fundraiser," said Tigani. "This is successful because people are supporting kids and the school. It helps off- set cost and do more throughout the year and I really, really appreciate it:' Tingani mentioned that she is also grateful for various prizes donated by local businesses. Ryan O'Rielly, a former student now professional hockey player, also donated a number of items including a signed photo and hockey stick.
