The following are briefs from the
recent Central Huron council meeting
on October 3:
•Councillor Colquhoun explained
various renovations they are doing at
the racetrack including to the bath-
rooms, barns and some windows.
He also announced that the Raceway is
donating $150,000 to the new splash pad
coming to Clinton Community Park.
There has been some talk from the park's
committee of naming rights for sale, but
Councillor Colquhoun said their only
request is they would like there to be a
dumping bucket on the splash pad with
the Raceway's logo on it.
This figure is not a part of the
$150,000 the parks committee must
fundraise themselves.
• Councillor Lobb inquired about a
part of the Animal Control Monthly
Report regarding an individual that had
poisoned their neighbour's dog. Clerk
Brenda Isaac said the dog died and the
OPP were called in. She said no charges
were laid providing the neighbour paid
all the vet bills.
• In the "Mayor's comments" part of
the meeting, Mayor Ginn said he went
to a meeting at Goderich Hospital
regarding hospice beds; Huron -Perth
may receive ten beds. He said Huron
could use five beds, but Perth has a pro-
posal for all ten beds.
"So there's movement afoot to try to
get some of those hospice beds here."
He said they do come with a hefty price
tag of over $300,000 per year.
"I just wanted to make council aware
that those discussion are ongoing."
• Also during the mayor's comments,
Mayor Ginn said he went to the Hullett
Central Public School's 50th anniver-
sary and the Rural 2 Rural Conference.
He said there was a lot of interesting
discussion at the conference though
there were a lot of difficult discussions
had regarding challenges in rural com-
munities. He said he enjoyed the ses-
sions on start-up companies and differ-
ent value added projects.
"I think we always need to keep our
eyes open for any job creating activities
because we lose so many jobs in agricul-
ture despite advancements in technology
[...] We can't go on just losing jobs all the
time, we have to replace them:'
• One item under "For council's informa-
tion/consideration" was a press release
regarding the dissolving of the Huron Tour-
ism Association. Councillor Lobb said, "I
just want to go on record as saying I'm dis-
appointed. I think it's unfortunate. I think
they've done a lot of good work in Huron
County, and I hope something steps up and
replaces them, but I'm disappointed in the
lack of county support"
Mayor Ginn said he had a tough phone
call from the former president, and he
said he will probably bring it up at county
council to give an explanation of where
they see these programs heading.
• Council passed a motion initiated by
Councillor Westerhout to support a letter
from the City of Belleville to support agri-
culture experts. The letter supports elimi-
nating "barriers to employment opportu-
nities for CCAs, and allow Ontario
farmers the freedom to engage in busi-
ness with the expert of their choice"
regarding changes to ON Reg. 63/09.
• Council passed a motion to support
the creation of a dog park in Auburn and
the Roads Manager to obtain three
quotes for installation of the fenced area.
• There was a discussion regarding
the rebranding of the municipality
which can be found on page two.
