Around 30 girls from
grades 4-8 met at Clinton
Christian Reformed Church
on Thursday, October 5 to
kick off their year of GEMS
club, Girls Everywhere Meet-
ing the Savior.
Each girl is given a badge
scarf which they decorate
with badges of life skills they
learn from sewing and can-
dle making to digital
technology.
On any given night, the
girls participate in singing/
creative movement, games,
crafts and a Bible study.
"It's relationship building
in a good, safe environment,"
said coordinator Ann
Reinink.
This year's theme of the
club is "Love Overflows"
based on 1 Thessalonians
3:12.
While many girls who
attend the club also attend
the church, around 60% of
the girls do not attend Clin-
ton CRC and are from the
community to enjoy the pro-
gram which is $40 for the
2016-2017 season.
They have various special
events through the year
including laser quest, snow
tubing, a get together in Feb-
ruary and November with
other area clubs, Christmas
caroling and more.
There is also a similar pro-
gram at the church but
geared towards boys called
Cadets.
There are GEMS clubs at
CRCs in Blyth, Vanastra,
Goderich, Wingham and
more. New girls are always
welcome to join.
