Clinton News Record, 2016-11-30, Page 7Central Huron council discusses parks, Albert Street fire, hospice beds and more Central Huron council briefs from their meeting on Monday, November 21 Justine Alkema Clinton News Record Council briefs from November 21 are as follows: - Councilor Anderson asked Roads Manager Tom Sinclair about a patch of missing sidewalk by St. Joseph's school; Sinclair said the project will be a part of next year's budget. - The dog park has been completed in Auburn. Councillor Alex Westerhout thanked Tom Sinclair for doing such a great job at getting the park set up. He commended Sinclair for doing the pro- ject quickly and said it looks great. - Councillor Anderson asked Steve Campbell about the concession booth at Clinton Radars games; she said ser- vice there is often very slow and the booth is open inconsistently and seems understaffed. She said this causes peo- ple to go to other places for food and bring it with them to the arena. Camp- bell said they will be moving another fryer to the booth shortly which could help with wait times. - Steve Campbell presented a photo of the final design concept of Clinton Community Park and its additions of a skate park, splash pad, pavilion and playground equipment. Council liked the layout and approved it; this approval included placing the splash pad on top of the existing wading pool. - Councilor Westerhout has asked Clerk Brenda Mclssac about the status of the building on Albert Street which suffered a fire at the end of August; the building has not been repaired since the fire, and as far as information that has been given goes, the building can- not handle much snowfall on the dam- aged roof. Since winter is impending, Councilor Westerhout asked what work was being done. Mclsaac has said that part of the reason for slow movement is the arson investigation as well as insur- ance dealings on the property. She said at this meeting that they are expecting a formal engineering report very shortly; she was expecting to have it the day of the meeting on November 21 but hadn't received it yet. That report will be very telling on what repairs need to be done so the building can hopefully be fixed quickly. - Kathy O'Reilly and Shirley Dins- more made a presentation regarding the hospice beds coming to Huron and Perth counties. Although council agreed hospice beds would be benefi- cial for the area, some councillors also questioned why communities are being asked to fundraise for a portion of the beds' funding ($372,300 for five beds annually.) They said this didn't make sense as it costs much less to fund a hospice bed than a hospital bed, so if creating hospices relieves a financial burden for the government, they thought it made more sense for the gov- ernment to fully fund the beds. O'Reilly stated at the end of her presentation that she was "quite sure" that their col- laborative's commission study would "suggest quite strongly" that hospice beds come to Central Huron. - Central Huron went into a private in camera session to discuss information pertaining to a motion to "enter into an agreement with the Corporation of the Municipality of Bluewater for Shared Fire Chief Services': After the in camera session, this motion was voted down. Then there was a motion to defer the decision, which passed.
