Annaleise Carr, 2012 and 2014
Ontario Junior Citizen, Simcoe, ON
At 14, Annaleise Carr was the youngest person ever to swim
across Lake Ontario. Two years later, Annaleise swam
across Lake Erie. Combined these efforts raised
awareness and hundreds of thousands of dollars for
Camp Trillium, a family camp for children with cancer.

FATAL TWO -VEHICLE
CRASH WEST OF ZURICH
(BLUEWATER, ON) — Investigators from
the West Region Ontario Provincial
Police (OPP) Technical Traffic Collision
Investigation (TTCI) Team investigated
a two -vehicle fatal crash that took place
west of Zurich on Sunday, November 19.
At approximately 12:00 p.m. Huron
County OPP, Zurich Fire Department
and Huron County Paramedic Services
responded to the crash scene located at
the intersection of Zurich-Hensall Road
(Huron County Road #84) and Bronson
Line.
Investigators have determined the driver
of a Jeep Compass was travelling south-
bound on Bronson Line when he failed to
stop at a stop sign controlling the inter-
section of Bronson Line and Zurich-Hen-
sall Road. The Jeep entered into the
intersection whereupon it was struck by
a Chevrolet Silverado that was travelling
eastbound on Zurich-Hensall Road.
The driver/lone occupant of the pickup
truck was ejected from his vehicle. He
was pronounced dead at the scene. He
has been identified as John VANDER-
BURGT, 61 years of age from the Munici-
pality of Bluewater.
The driver/lone occupant of the Jeep
Compass, a 57 -year-old male from
Mount Vernon, Illinois was transported
from the scene by land ambulance to a
local hospital where he was treated for
minor injuries.
A charge under the Highway Traffic Act
is pending.
MALE APPREHENDED
AT RURAL RESIDENCE
Charges laid, male to appear in bail court
(MUNICIPALITY OF HURON EAST, ON) —
As a result of a criminal investigation at a
residence along North Line between Hydro
Line Road and Bridge Road on Wednes-
day afternoon November 16, 2016, the
Huron County Ontario Provincial Police
(OPP) have arrested a male.
Due to nature of the investigation and
to ensure public safety, North Line was
closed by the OPP for over four hours.
Specialized OPP units were deployed to
the rural property ensuring a safe out-
come to the investigation and the arrest of
a male at the scene.
40 -year-old Shawn Douglas ELLIOTT of
the Municipality of Huron East has been
charged with the following Criminal Code
of Canada offences:
• Uttering Threats — Cause death or Bod-
ily Harm
• Possession of Weapon for Dangerous
purpose
• Cruelty to animals
• Assault Causing Bodily Harm
• Assault with a weapon x2
• Assault
• Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
He remains in custody and is to appear for
a bail hearing.

DANGEROUS DRIVER
RACKS UP TEN CHARGES
(HURON EAST & CENTRAL HURON, ON)
- A male driver remains in custody on
a total of 10 charges following a police
chase that took place in early November.
Shortly before 3:00 p.m. on November
2, 2016 Huron County Ontario Provincial
Police (OPP) officers were dispatched to
investigate a fail to remain collision that
had just taken place on Huron Road near
Maple Line.
Officers learned the driver of a Pontiac
Pursuit was travelling westbound on
Huron Road when the driver clipped the
front end of a pickup truck while trying
to complete a pass. The driver of the
Pontiac Pursuit did not stop and pro-
ceeded to flee the scene of the crash.
The victim followed for a short dis-
tance however the suspect vehicle was
quickly lost.
Minutes later officers began receiving
calls about the suspect vehicle travel-
ling in the Town of Seaforth in a dan-
gerous manner nearly striking some
pedestrians. An officer spotted the sus-
pect vehicle on Front Road at Kinburn
Line and signaled for the driver to stop
however the driver failed to stop for the
officer and continued westbound.
Shortly thereafter, another officer spot-
ted the suspect vehicle travelling into
Vanastra at a high rate of speed. The
officer gave chase and followed the sus-
pect vehicle toward Clinton on High-
way 4. Upon entering Clinton the driver
of the suspect vehicle drove over a tire
deflation device and the Pontiac Pursuit
came to a stop a short distance down
the road.
The driver was quickly placed under arrest
and taken into custody.
A 31 year old male from London is facing
the following charges:
• Dangerous Driving
• Flight From Police
• Fail to Stop at the Scene of an Accident
• Driving While Disqualified
• Take Motor Vehicle Without Consent
• Careless Driving
• Fail to Remain at the Scene of an Acci-
dent
• Drive While Under Suspension
• Breach of Probation (2 counts)
He remains in custody with a court date
scheduled for November 16, 2016 at the
Ontario Court of Justice — Goderich.
