The numbers for the federal
spending on infrastructure are
out for the country; these findings
are listed on reports of the latest
economic update or more identi-
fied as the "fiscal projections, and
from conversations with Huron -
Bruce MP Ben Lobb, rural com-
munities are getting shafted.
Sometimes these numbers are
provided in late winter or early
spring, this year they came in the
fall. Conveyed by the Minister of
Finance, Bill Morneau, he
detailed that there will be $81 bil-
lion in expenditures over a span of
11 years for infrastructure.
From 2016-2017 to 2027-2028,
roughly $25 billion will go towards
public transit, nearly $22 billion a
piece for green and social infra-
structure, trade and transporta-
tion will see about $10 billion and
lastly what frustrates Lobb most is
the $2 billion for rural and north -
em communities.
"You think about how vast the
country is to allocate those
amounts. (It's) an insult and if you
ask rural Ontario MPs. Since the
Liberals have got in, there has
been no infrastructure at all, a few
if any," stated Lobb on November
3 who also mentioned this year's
infrastructure updates are lower
than the previous forecasts.
Lobb fears are that this recent
economic update is heading in
the direction of what he calls an
"anti -rural" theme.
Another issue that worries the
long-time politician is the pro-
gress for the economy that's
predicted.
"The unfortunate thing is eco-
nomic growth, and this is not my
numbers, it's theirs, it's black and
white in their fall update," said
Lobb. "Growth is 1.8 per cent until
2021, that's a problem."
"Trump in the U.S. is talking 4
per cent."
Lobb concluded with saying he
will be "pushing" on PM, Justin
Trudeau, Momeau and the infra-
structure minister until more
money is promised to rural
communities.
Brad Knight, CAO of Huron
East said he's not able to com-
ment until they "see more details

Paint the Town Red supports United Way
Jefferson House
Special to the News Record
Paint the Town Red has been
going on for more than five years,
but this is the first year that the
event will happen in the Huron
and Perth area.
This event, which will take
place from November 25-27,
raises awareness to shopping
local, and all donations go back to
the United Way. They then find
ways in order to put the donations
earned back into the community
to help it grow.
Paint the Town Red is an
"opportunity for local businesses
to reach out to the community,"
says Carolynne Champagne, VP
of Resource Development and
Communications. "It get's others
to shop local and give back to the
community."
Currently, approximately
twenty businesses have signed up
for the event and more are signing
up to contribute to the United
Way. From clothing shops to
hardware stores, bakeries to dis-
tilleries, everyone wants to help
give back and shop local. These
businesses are listed on the
United Way's website.
In the past, restaurants, baker-
ies, and many other types of busi-
nesses have contributed to the
Paint the Town Red event. They
do this in a multitude of ways.
Restaurants have made a signa-
ture drink, while other businesses
if it's local, it's here
have connected a product to the
event and promised to donate a
percentage of money raised.
When the donations are given
to the United Way, they are used
to help the community that the
donations came from. Some spe-
cific causes are assistance for
those in need of financial aid in
respect to the arts or sports. They
also help elderly people who have
trouble with mobility a way to
travel.
In other United Way news, they
have recently launched a program
called Connect Youth. This pro-
gram's website gives youth a way
to receive guidance in what kind
of resources or help they may
need in certain situations.
