Council briefs
Justine Alkema
Clinton News Record
The following are briefs
from the Central Huron
council meeting on Monday,
November 7:
- Bluewater Mayor Tyler
Hessel gave a short presenta-
tion to council to communi-
cate with them about the
Draft Shoreline Manage-
ment Plan. He said it's
important that the two
municipalities work together
and communicate in the
future on the subject as both
include a portion of the
shoreline. Hessel thanked
Councillor Metzger for the
motion he brought forward
to not implement or endorse
the plan.
- Council discussed an
item from the BIA package
regarding their cancelling
the welcome dinner for
REACH and Fanshawe stu-
dents due to lack of attend-
ance. Councillor Lobb
expressed her disappoint-
ment in this decision; Mayor
Ginn said most Fanshawe
students are adult students
and have families to be
home with in the evenings,
though he said the decision
to cancel the dinner was a bit
disappointing as well.
- Councillors liked the
idea put forward by Com-
munity Improvement Coor-
dinator Angela Smith about
putting a piano somewhere
on the street downtown.
Clinton Public School has a
piano they are interested in
donating that they'd like
their students to decorate.
Someone brought up if it
would be vandalized, but the
CAO said it's a free donation,
so whether it's vandalized or
not, it's going to be free any-
way. He said communities in
other places haven't found
that vandalism has been an
issue.
- There was a brief discus-
sion regarding the building
on Albert Street that was
damaged in the fire at the
end of August. Clerk Brenda
Mclssac said there is an
upcoming meeting between
insurance companies, a
building official and bylaw
officer, and that decisions
about the building were
delayed due to the arson
investigation. They are hop-
ing to keep the building
standing but are unsure at
this point if it will have to be
torn down or not.
- Council discussed a
motion brought forward for
the sale/trade/donation/
disposal of the Central Huron
YMCA "Energy Zone" kid's
equipment. The equipment is
underused though it is an
ongoing utility expense and it
takes up a whole room, so this
was addressed. They dis-
cussed if moving it to another
location would make it better
used, and decided to defer the
motion to potentially find
another place to put it.
- Council passed a motion
to put up signage around the
Hullett Provincial Wildlife
Area to signal road entrances
of the wildlife area. The signs
will be placed at Burns Line,
Sanctuary Line, Front Road,
and Conservation Road
where it is unclear that it is
not a through road, but that
the road ends and the wild-
life area starts.
- Council approved a
motion after some discussion
