On Saturday, October 29, the
area in front of Scrimgeour's
Food market in Blyth was
fenced off to kick off Blyth's
140th celebrations. For Blyth's
140th year, Blyth is hosting 140
events, with this being the first.
As a part of this primary
event, Cowbell launched their
second beer, called Doc Pur -
due's Bobcat. This beer is the
second of five beers in their
"Founder Series" which will
remain a core series of Cowbell
beer in the future. Like their first
beer in the series, the Absent
Landlord, it is named after one
of the founders of the Blyth.
The beer is a west coast ale
which is a mix of an IPA and a
west coast pale ale. There are
tons of hops and lots of flavour,
however without the intense
bitter aftertaste. It is juicy with
lots of grapefruit flavour and
pine. It has a strong aroma, is
full bodied and is incredibly
clean.

Wagland said it is a great

introduction to strong beer,
since even though it is super
flavourful and hoppy, the
minimal aftertaste makes it
easy to drink.
Doc Purdue was available for
free, generous samples. Absent
Landlord was for sale at the
event as well as Scrimgeour's
sausages. The local band Sal's
Valley also played at the event.
They wanted to provide the
beer for free samples so the
local communitywas the first to
try it
"We really wanted people to
be able to sample and taste it in
our backyard," said Director of
County Cool Experiences
Genny Smith.
It will be available at LCBOs
early to mid-December and at
several restaurants including
the Black Dog.
There was a pub crawl in the
evening as a part of the event as
well.
The third beer in the series
will come out next year. How-
ever beginning in the next few
weeks, Cowbell is planning on
releasing a number of beers in a
short, one off series, with a
number of more unique beers.
These will be made in a very
small supply with only around
50-100 kegs made. Their first
will be a smoked lager, also
called "bacon beer': They will
come out with a new beer in
this series every month for a
number of months.
And there are 139 more
events to come to celebrate
Blyth's big milestone.
