The skate park will use the existing pad in the park. There will be grass berms at all the raised edges
of the equipment.
Lots of work went into coming up with the designs for the park including consulting local youth and
working with a skate park planning company out of British Columbia.

There were some disappointed faces in
Libro Community Hall on May 17.
The public unveil of the skate park
design was set to happen that day along
with discussion about park, fundraisers
and more. However only four people
showed up to the meeting, and none of the
four were youth.
"We were expecting to see a room full of
kids and their parents," said co-chair Steve
Ott.
They advertised the meeting in local
schools, businesses and in the Clinton
News Record.
Fortunately, two of the attendees were
willing to get more involved with the
park and help get word of it out.
Currently, the committee working on

couples who were at the meeting, Steve
and Karen Ott and Trevor and Crystal
Agombar. Another local couple is

councillors. Two other community mem-
bers were originally involved, but ended
up being too busy with other activities to
stay in the group.
These couples are ordinary local par-
ents who decided to go on a limb and try
something they had never done before -
organize a large scale community
project.
However they envisioned other com-
munity members who would like to see a
new skate park happen join them along
the way.
"We know youth want it, but it's about
getting their parents on board too," said
Karen Ott.
Skate parks have been known to be ben-
eficial for communities for all kinds of rea-
sons. Some of these reasons include physi-
cal and mental health benefits for its users.
They also help prevent damage to private
property and provide a safe environment
for skateboarding, since when there is no
skate park in a town, kids will skate any-
where and everywhere. It provides a space
for kids to do something positive, keeping
them from harmful activities. Skate parks
also don't need much maintenance, and its
low cost participation means anyone can
