We are pleased to share with you this splendid contemporary work that affirms life and life after death. This will be Artistic Director Sharon Poelstra's fourth time con- ducting John Rutter's "Requiem" - a work that delights audiences and sing- ers alike. The Singers are pleased to welcome back Juno award- winning organist Ian Sadler who will accompany "Req- uiem': Ian lives in Stratford and contributes greatly to the music scene in south- western Ontario including leading the Stratford Concert Choir and performing with the Bach Festival of Canada. His work is world renowned and he regularly plays in cathedrals nationally and internationally but particu- larly in the UK. Other guest musicians include soprano Jessica Tweedle from St. Mary's, Stratford flutist Jan Searle, cellist Tom Beard from Wingham and Goderich tim- panist Murray Keith. Anyone who has ever sung the Rutter 'Requiem' gets it in their bones, and it stays there. John Rutter wrote Requiem in 1985 dedicated in memory to his father. He relied on the most beautiful and basic of the Latin req- uiem texts in his work, but chose to express certain psalm texts such as "The Lord Is My Shepherd" in English. Rutter's "Sanctus" is triumphant and the "Agnus Dei" is incredibly haunting. The work closes with the sonorous, harmonically rich "Lux aeterna." The second half of the concert program will feature contemporary contempla- tive pieces that continue the spiritual journey from a more secular perspective, with Lori Millian on piano. We will also enjoy songs from our guest soprano solo- ist, Jessica Tweddle. "Music for the Soul" is sure to be an unforgettable event in the rich acoustic environment that is Clinton United Church. The concert begins at 3 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, April 10 with a light reception to follow. Tickets are available from the Blyth Festival Singers, or the Blyth Festival Box Office. Call 519-523-9300 or order online www.blythfestival. com. Tickets will also be available at the door. The cost for adults is $15, chil- dren under twelve $6. A fam- ily package for two adults and children is $40. The Blyth Festival Singers is a county -wide community choir under the professional direction Sharon Poelstra. The choir, averaging between 40 -50 members, performs primarily in Huron County and has endeav- oured to present a high standard of choral singing since its inception in 1980. The Blyth Festival Singers are pleased to be celebrating their 35th season this year.
