equipment for the hospital.
Thanks to the generous
donations from the people of
Clinton and surrounding
area, the Auxilliary was able
to secure several items total-
ing over $21,000. Clinton

Central Huron Council update
Valerie Gillies
Clinton News Record
Central Huron Council
held their regular meeting
on March 7.
A lengthy report was
given by Huron County
planning regarding a sev-
erance at 7998 Porters
Hill Line at Highway #8
which is a farm owned by
Dr. and Mrs. Shouldice.
An application had been
made asking that the cor-
ner of the lot that had
been a former veterinary
clinic be rezoned to allow
it to be developed for
farm produce sale, as well
as a retail outlet for items
brought in to supplement
the produce from the
farm. The County recom-
mended that the applica-
tion be denied as it did
not fit with the definitions
in the County planning.
However, after hearing
from the owners, Council
discussed the prior and
future use as presented
by the owners and
decided that required
services change over
time, which needs to be
reflected in decisions
made on usage. Council
voted to accept the appli-
cation as sent without the
amendments recom-
mended by County
Planning.
The third reading of the
Lee Zoning amendment
was passed to allow rezon-
ing for a parking lot for the
dental office in Clinton.
Winn Stewart was
granted time to present her
stance on the water and
sewer billing for her
mobile home park. After a
lengthy discussion with
Council and some of the
municipal staff members
present, Stewart was
advised that her matter
would have to be dealt
with through staff as it was
not a Council matter.
It was moved that a
Community and Employ-
ment Coordinator position
should be created for the
Municipality and have
funding provided. Coun-
cillor Lobb stated that this
had been discussed while
preparing the strategic
plan as to what should be
included in this position.
This person would also be
available to work with BIA
on their projects. Council-
lors Metzger and Anderson
indicated that Council
should learn from past
mistakes and set out how
many hours per week
should be dedicated to BIA
with there being a maxi-
mum per week. It was
agreed that both Council
and BIA should be
involved in coming up
with a job description.
Councillor Calquhoun and
Deputy Mayor Jewitt urged
that this position should
be created sooner rather
than later.
There is a Council
vacancy in the West Ward
as Councillor Genny Smith
has resigned her seat. The
Clerk asked for direction
on how to proceed with
the process to fill the
vacancy. There are three
options. The first option is
by appointment which can
be done in two ways. The
first option for appoint-
ment is the Council choose
someone who would be
installed at the next meet-
ing. The second manner of
appointment would be to
advertise in the newspaper
for nominations, conduct
interviews of the nomi-
nees, Council would vote
to elect the person to the
seat. The third option
would be to hold a full bi-
election. Although it was
agreed that the process
should be open to the pub-
lic for input, it was also
agreed that the cost of a
full bi-election would be
prohibitive. For this reason
the Clerk was advised to
begin the process of
Appointment by nomina-
tions from the public to be
voted in by Council.
