Clinton News Record, 2016-06-29, Page 15Wednesday, June 29, 2016 • News Record 17 June 20 Central Huron council briefs Justine Alkema Clinton News Record • Councillor Westerhout asked if it's the county's responsibility to paint lines on the road. He said the last few times he'd been at the intersection on highway 8 and Albert Street, there was always someone in the left hand turn lane trying to go straight through and the person beside them was trying to go straight through. Sinclair said the road lines should be done very soon. • Council asked Roads Manager Tom Sinclair about the poor condition of Bayfield Road. Sinclair said it will be fixed this summer. • Matt Lee from REACH announced a new three-year agreement with Fanshawe College. It's for space in the facility and is focused around student support. See full article for more information. • Councillor Westerhout shared his experience on a bus trip he had taken with the Multi -Municipal Wind Turbines Working Group on June 4. There were 6 stops on the tour of people suffering different effects of the turbines. One of many anecdotes he told was about the mayor of Kincar- dine who was very pro - wind turbine until some were put up by her house and she had to move. Now she is very anti -wind tur- bine. He also talked about people living in tents out- side their house. • "If I had any doubts before, and I did have prob- ably a few, that has been completely eliminated. Hopefully going forward there will be some kind of health investigation in Huron County." He noted that many people who have signed contracts for wind turbines had to agree to not talk about the effects on their health. • Ausable Bayfield Conser- vation Authority staff Alec Scott and Brian Horner came in to talk about the determination for risk structures within the unstable Bluff Slope area along the Lake Huron shoreline. The discussed the risks of receding cliffs on nearby homes and asked council if they think a study should be done to determine the risk at this point. Bluewater council did not think the study should happen at this point. Central Huron council did not make a decision at that point. "There are questions we have to ask before going forward," said Mayor Ginn. • Linda Renkema from Room2Grow presented her idea to build a splash pad at Clinton Park. See full article for more information. • Council voted on and passed a motion indicating that they support the corre- spondence from the Town- ship of South-West Oxford on the town's opposition to the division of the ROMA and OGRA conferences. • Council voted on and passed a motion indicating that they support the corre- spondence from the City of Hamilton to the Premier of Ontario advocating addi- tional funding for programs and resources for individuals of all ages with Autism and their families. • Council agreed to apply for grants to help pay for 30-50% of the roof replacement of the historically designated Central Huron Municipal Building, to install some new doors and push button access to the OPP Satellite office and upgrades to the racetrack.
