June 20 Central Huron council briefs
Justine Alkema
Clinton News Record
• Councillor Westerhout
asked if it's the county's
responsibility to paint lines
on the road. He said the last
few times he'd been at the
intersection on highway 8
and Albert Street, there was
always someone in the left
hand turn lane trying to go
straight through and the
person beside them was
trying to go straight
through. Sinclair said the
road lines should be done
very soon.
• Council asked Roads
Manager Tom Sinclair
about the poor condition
of Bayfield Road. Sinclair
said it will be fixed this
summer.
• Matt Lee from REACH
announced a new three-year
agreement with Fanshawe
College. It's for space in the
facility and is focused
around student support. See
full article for more
information.
• Councillor Westerhout
shared his experience on a
bus trip he had taken with
the Multi -Municipal Wind
Turbines Working Group
on June 4. There were 6
stops on the tour of people
suffering different effects of
the turbines. One of many
anecdotes he told was
about the mayor of Kincar-
dine who was very pro -
wind turbine until some
were put up by her house
and she had to move. Now
she is very anti -wind tur-
bine. He also talked about
people living in tents out-
side their house.
• "If I had any doubts
before, and I did have prob-
ably a few, that has been
completely eliminated.
Hopefully going forward
there will be some kind of
health investigation in
Huron County." He noted
that many people who have
signed contracts for wind
turbines had to agree to not
talk about the effects on
their health.
• Ausable Bayfield Conser-
vation Authority staff Alec
Scott and Brian Horner
came in to talk about the
determination for risk
structures within the
unstable Bluff Slope area
along the Lake Huron
shoreline. The discussed
the risks of receding cliffs
on nearby homes and
asked council if they think
a study should be done to
determine the risk at this
point. Bluewater council
did not think the study
should happen at this
point. Central Huron
council did not make a
decision at that point.
"There are questions we
have to ask before going
forward," said Mayor Ginn.
• Linda Renkema from
Room2Grow presented her
idea to build a splash pad at
Clinton Park. See full article
for more information.
• Council voted on and
passed a motion indicating
that they support the corre-
spondence from the Town-
ship of South-West Oxford
on the town's opposition to
the division of the ROMA
and OGRA conferences.
• Council voted on and
passed a motion indicating
that they support the corre-
spondence from the City of
Hamilton to the Premier of
Ontario advocating addi-
tional funding for programs
and resources for individuals
of all ages with Autism and
their families.
• Council agreed to apply for
grants to help pay for 30-50%
of the roof replacement of
the historically designated
Central Huron Municipal
Building, to install some new
doors and push button
access to the OPP Satellite
office and upgrades to the
racetrack.
