There is a Sloman Memorial Park on Victoria Terrace; this park is home to the CNR School Museum on Wheels. This museum, which is a rail- car, was home to the Sloman family. Now this park is home to a new tree that has been planted in honour of Mar- garet Sloman who passed away on November 21, 2015. The Clinton Horticultural Society planted the tree on Wednesday, June 15. Members of the society gathered around the site and secretary Jeannette Martin gave a short speech about Margaret's life. Margaret was the third daughter of Fred Sloman who was a teacher. Their family lived and traveled on the railcar for 10 months of the year from 1926 to 1965. They traveled to remote areas of northern Ontario to educate children living there. Margaret was also educated on the school car until grade 12. In grade 13, she attended the Clinton Collegiate Institute (now Central Huron Secondary School). After graduating, she attended the Mothercraft Society Institute in Toronto and earned her certificate as a mother - craft nurse which is similar to being a professional nanny. She cared for babies in Toronto, Lon- don, Montreal and Paris, France before retiring to Clinton to care for her mother. They chose this type of tree because it is beautiful and they believe Margaret would have liked it. It is the fledgling tree on the left side of the park; a small plaque will be put up beside it.
