The Grade 10 Canadian
History class at St. Anne's
worked hard on a unique
project this semester; that
was to find an object impor-
tant to them or their family
history and research it, write
about it and create a
museum label for it. They
essentially curated their own
exhibit as a class, and that
exhibit is on display at St.
Anne's.
The class worked in close
partnership with the curator
at the Huron County
Museum, Will Kernohan.
Students got a behind -the -
scenes view of the museum
and were instructed on how
a museum acquires pieces of
historical importance.
Armed with that knowledge,
students were asked to
choose an object of their
own to curate.
The student curators
selected all kinds of different
objects for all kinds of differ-
ent reasons. Each artifact
tells a story about a time in
the person's life. The stories
paint pictures of days gone
by which range from child-
hood memories to family
histories.
The display case at the
school features objects such
as a doll, toy, sledgehammer,
crucifix or wooden shoes.
The object of this project
was to spark interest in local
and family history and to
encourage a sense of curiosity
in history and interpreting the
past. They also create conver-
sations about objects and
memories that hold a special
place in the students' hearts.
