"Quiet Time" Exhibition at Blyth Gallery
Beginning June 17, the
Blyth Festival Art Gallery will
be presenting the first of its
three professional -level
exhibitions, featuring the
paintings of Stratford's
Wendy Orr.
Her formal art education
began at the secondary
school level in Woodstock,
Ontario. From 1975 to 1978
she attended Sheridan Col-
lege of Applied Arts and
Technology completing the
three-year Illustration
program.
She spent several years
working as an illustrator and
then returned to the Univer-
sity of Western Ontario to
study Visual Arts and became
a certified teacher through the
Faculty of Education. From
1986 to 2012 she taught visual
arts at a secondary school in
Stratford. She continues to
reside in Stratford where she
now works full time as a visual
artist.
Asked about the title of the
show, Wendy replied, "Six
months into the preparation
of my show, my mother was
diagnosed with Alzheimer's.
My focus became divided and
during this time, the original
motivation for my work
changed from external to
internal inspiration. This shift
became evident in the pro-
cess. Painting became my
form of meditation, a quest for
peace and calm in a family
crisis. As a result, the work in
this show became much more
personal, a record of quiet
moments frozen in time':
The subjects of her paintings
vary from rural landscapes to
forest scenes. There are birds
and beasts, flowers and trees.

All are painted with close atten-

David Blackwood and Mary
Pratt. It is obvious that she has a
real devotion to her immediate
